Adding Center Channel Speaker to non-JBL 4runner

I just picked up a JBL MS-8 processor, and one of the features is the Logic 7 surround sound. To take full advantage of this, and to keep the soundstage centered for both the driver and passenger, they recommend a center speaker.

Which brings me to my question, has anyone ever added a center speaker to a 4runner that did not come with one? Are all the brackets there?

Yeah I do, but Im worried Ill cut the hole and have nothing to attach a speaker too. If I do go through with it, Ill get the center speaker grill to cover the hole. That is I can muster up the balls to cut into my otherwise perfect dash.

Thats pretty much exactly what I wanted to see, thanks! Wish he had a shot of how he mounted the speaker but hopefully I can figure that out easy enough.

Nice! I'm thinking about picking up a processor and going 3 way active with a center channel. The only thing stopping me is finding a place for the extra amp and processor. I still use my truck to haul stuff around, so putting a board behind the back seats is out of the question for now.

After a quick search, I found this guy upgrading his system.

What you could do is, if you cant figure or find how to mount the speaker, go into a Toyota dealership and see if you can buy the bracket from them. Or go in there and take a gander at there parts manuel/brochure, to see where the bracket will go. The guys working at the parts counter are usually pretty cool about it, at all the dealerships i've been to.

If you do find a way to do it, with out the oem bracket, let us know.

Thats my issue as well. As of now, Im running three way active up front off the JBL since it has a built in amp, but its not loud enough for me. So I found an old A/D/S/ amp but I dont have space to put it anywhere. Might have to get creative with a custom amp rack above the wheel well in the trunk.

After looking at it more, I think I might be able to just bolt the speaker through the plastic of the dash. Id be using a Vifa TC9F which is a 3.5" speaker with a plastic basket so I would think itd be light enough to be supported by the dash. I am gonna go over to the dealer tomorrow and see if they have the grill and check out the diagrams they have though.
