Backup Sensors in Gen 4 2008 Limited...

Hi all,

Just purchased a 2008 4wd limited w/o nav/backup camera. It looks like there are backup sensors in the rear bumper, but if they're actually there, they aren't working.

I also don't see any way to turn them on or off, which would be needed for trailering. Does anyone know if they are in fact there? I've searched the options for this year and can't tell for sure.

Thanks!

4th Gen 4Runner NEVER came with backup sensors from the factory. If you see them, they are aftermarket.

Why would they be needed for trailering?

I have one in my 06 Limited, and it's just horrible. I've never heard such a loud, piercing beep in my life with a back up sensor. The previous owner must have had hearing problems.

Funny, I was working on my sensors saturday morning trying to figure out if they are OEM or aftermarket. One of my sensors had sun damage and popped out, broke the clip. I went searching for a OEM replacement but I guess what I have is an aftermarket setup. It looks OEM because of the on/off switch I have. So, I searched eBay and amazon and decided to replace with this http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I'm hoping that I can just splice the sensors and use the same wiring that is already there. I do not want to rewire and lose the function of the on/off switch which looks OEM. If it doesn't work, I'm out $17 and I something to cover the holes with.

I installed the new sensors I bought from Amazon and am really pleased with the results. The color matches well and my splice job worked. Boom!

I put the indicator lights in the garbage, all I wanted to do was replace the broken sensors and keep the on/off button. I didn't want to rewire everything. I have a backup camera so didn't need the indicator lights.

Just bought a 2008 limited without navigation or backup camera and it also has the aftermarket backup sensors. Only problem is every time I switch to reverse a loud continuous beep goes off even if there isn’t anything behind me. Sometimes if I switch between reverse and neutral a few times the sensors will actually work how they’re supposed to and only beep when I’m backing close to something. Anybody have an idea to fix this or what could be causing it?
