Reverse to Drive weird clicking noise

When Backing out of my driveway I sometimes do not stop all the way and then throw the 4runner into drive to take off down the road. I shouldn't do this but it happens. I have noticed that sometimes when I do it the VSC and another light comes on and I hear a clicking noise. I am thinking it is traction control or something like that but I just wanted to ask you smart guys and make sure my 4runner isn't going to blow up.

Thanks for helping!

Never had the VCS or traction activate when doing this like you're experiencing.

However sometimes I get a good jerk/thud when switching gears. I've always wondered if this can helped with putting grease somewhere (maybe driveshaft)

I've had this happen to me once, although not while changing gears. Went to hop a curb, but I didn't give it the power it needed to get the front wheels over. The vehicle rolled back a bit and the VSC/Trac systems lit up and made some clicking noises.

It must be how these transmissions handle sudden vehicle rollback while in Drive... I can't imagine a few times being too harmful, but repeated roughness on the trans is only going to shorten its lifespan.

This... If the vehicle moves backwards enough while in drive, the VSC will light up and beep at you, telling you that you're moving backwards when you should be moving forward. Steep hills will make this happen, too, unless yours has the vehicle roll back thing.

On second thought, is this the vehicle anti-rollback thing?

I think you a correct. OP try finding a hill big enough to roll you backwards while in drive. You should get the same lights and might hear the same sounds. I'm sure the off road guys can chip in here if his sounds is normal. Sadly, mine only goes "off road" when my wife drives in the yard a little while trying to stay on our driveway.

Yes, it's the HAC feature. It doesn't work very well, but if you want to use it for some reason, it seems to help to press the brakes hard before you roll backwards, to prime the system. Other auto braking modes don't need that, so I don't know why this one would.
