NateMob's "Bump-It!" Adventure/Build Thread
Here's my 2006 Sport 4wd, she is a direct replacement for my 2001 4Runner that I built up from stock over the last two years. When I got back from my deployment in October of 2014, I went through some tough stuff here on the home front. My outlet and escape has always been my garage and vehicles, when the dust began to settle I knew a new truck/build what just what I needed for a reboot and to help me move forward. On to bigger and better things they say. So thats what I did.
November 4th I bought a 2006 Sport Edition with 76,000 miles on it. It was a one owner driven by an older woman about an hour from where i was stationed. It had always been Toyota maintained and the couple had every service record from when they bought it new years before, I wasn't sold on the color at first but it met all my other requirements for what I was looking for. My 01 went through many suspension iterations and changes as I learned the ins and outs of my first Toyota 4x4, I took all I learned from that truck and set out with a game plan to build an all purpose rig that would get me to the trail and back in comfort, along with all the capabilities I had gotten used to in the smaller and more nimble 3rd Gen.
I knew I wanted to build this one right the first time (crazy, i know) so I started planning the build with a couple friends and getting on the phone with my favorite companies in the industry. The following posts and photos will be my attempt to document what I have done and where my 4Runner takes me when I get the chance to get away.
This is how she looked for the first couple days before I removed the pinstripes, steps and window vents. Such a humble and lowly beginning.
As great as it was having two 4Runners in the driveway, the 01 would have to go to a new home as it just didn't make sense to have two built rigs soaking up money and space.
In stock form, the flex wasn't impressive but man that X-REAS suspension ate up the mountain curves. I drove it like a sports car for the first couple months. A couple trips to the east coast and back over the holidays and i knew it was time to get serious and give it the attention it deserved.
Stay tuned.

Thanks to all the above for the comments and the love already, The Bump-It build is coming along great with some great changes coming in its future. I learned tons from my 3rd Gen build and am trying to apply it to the 4th Gen. The CrackRock is now owned by one of my best friends, so if you arent into my rig, you can at least stop here for some sick photos of that truck!
Hoping to have some time to really get into this thread in the coming days. For now, here's some more eye candy.
The last photo of my old rig before it left for it's new owner.
One more for the road.

First thing I ordered was a full skid set from Josh at RCI Metalworks. What a great guy to deal with and a terrific product, we talked on the phone a couple times about the best combination of weight savings and protections. I ultimately ended up with his steel 1/4" front skid followed by all 1/4" aluminum skids in the Transmission, Transfer Case, and Fuel Tank positions. Also added a set of steel rear link mount skids to protect the vulnerable factory upper link mounts on the frame.
Other skid photos will be from the trail.
Also ordered a set of 1/4" steel lower A-Arms skids from Jerry at Bay Area Metal Fab. Another great guy and awesome product, went with his skids because of the lower alignment cam protection and the toughness of 1/4" steel. He will flat out tell you he wont waste his time making them in aluminum or thinner material, they are seriously built to take some abuse!
None of these parts would make it onto the truck for a couple months but I knew they would be put through their paces when the time was right...
