2003 Toyota 4Runner Overhead DVD Player
HI guys! I have a 2003 Toyota 4Runner Sport V6 4.0. Ive had it for a week an am loving it! I just have 1 problem i havent been able to figure out. It has a ROOF MOUNTED DVD PLAYER, i think it was stock (OEM) but not sure.
My 4runner has no sunroof, so it might be stock? It has no Manufacturing Name or Information on the player, or in the manual. All the Manual says is Form Number 128-6522. Im trying to replace the remote control for the DVD player because the previous owner lost it. All i can do without the remote is Play and Stop, it would be nice to have more controls than that. I need help finding a replacement remote control, Any Ideas?

I don't think that's stock. I have a 4th Gen Limited and it only came with rear seat entertainment which is headphones and instrument cluster to control the radio. Isn't that a sun roof right in front of the DVD player?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
I really want to say one was never offered on the 4th Gen 4Runner. during the years the 4th gen was in production, it was offered on the Sequoia and Sienna.
Not to fret OP, you can always replace it with another overhead DVD. A newer one with a remote and maybe even a bigger one. Anyway, I have headrest DVDs and LOVE them. I had an overhead DVD on my 3rd gen when I had it, but kept slamming my head against it every time I was in the back.

It's aftermarket. Either dealer installed, or previous owner.
Overhead / backseat DVD displays weren't an option. Although a glovebox mounted DVD changer was an option for those with the navigation system.
More than likely that unit is an Audiovox. Not only were they one of the first with mobile video, for almost a decade they led the aftermarket scene, and they contributed a lot for dealer installs as well. So just because it may not have their name on it, it looks like one of their earlier units.

Cookie, doesn't that look like a sunroof in front of the DVD though?

OP, check out this auction on Ebay. It's the same overhead unit - Shows the remote. Do a google search for audiovox dvd remote and see what you find.

A/V1 Thanks for the link for the ebay ad! ill have to look into that remote some more. Is there any way to be sure that is the right remote? or do I just get it and try?

Heres the DVD player looking from the front. and you can see the only built in controls are play and stop and eject and power. pretty lame sauce, especially when the movie restarts when you turn your car off, and you didn't get to finish it. haha! Thanks guys!

Yeah, that is pretty lame. Anyway, if you are feeling ambitious, rip it out, get another one with all the goodies (more useable buttons). Figure all the hardware mounting and wires are there, so an install should be easy.
My head still hurts from crashing my head on mine. It was an AudioVox as well but not the same model. Didn't care for it (cooling fan was constantly "whirling" in my ear, oh and the lumps on my head).

I've got the exact same DVD player in my 2005. I assumed it was stock too, just bought the car 2 days ago. Luckily the guy had 2 wireless headphones and remote for it. I don't have kids so no real use for it but maybe someday.

I found a link for the actual Audiovox unit. It's the VOD705DL
Discount Mobile Video and Rear Observation Systems
They have remotes on their website as well (check accessories at the top). You don't necessarily need the exact one that came with your model. If you can't find the exact one, you might find a similar one that may not have ALL the buttons, or even have MORE buttons than the original. The ir signals will be the same most generally between similar models, and I've even found you can find some brand's remotes can be used with more than one brand. This actually happens quite often.
Hope this helps

I know this post is dated. But what headrest video screens did you have? I'm in retested, but only if it looks factory.
I recall road trips in our T4R around 2005 with the good ol box tv.

From what I can tell, you can still get them. They are worth every penny of the $1300 that they cost. (if you have small kids that is), otherwise they are worthless.
