Just bought a 4Runner....need new shocks

I just purchased a 2000 4Runner SR5 but the ride was really bouncy. I got a good deal and figured I'd look for some good aftermarket replacements and now I'm searching. The Tirerack has KYB non adjustable shocks for $55 front and $38 rear, and front mounts are $36 each which I figured I'd also replace.

How is this price? How do these compare to stock? Bilstein? Tokico? etc etc? I'm not going off road, I just want to tighten things up w/o getting too harsh of a ride.

Thanks in advance!!

I put a set of Bilstein Sport shocks on my '98 'Runner and loved them. The valving yields a firm ride (some have called it harsh). You should be aware that the Bilstein shocks that TRD sells (sold?) are smaller in diameter than the Bilstein Sports.

IMHO, Bilstein Sports are the gold standard for 4Runner replacement shocks. They are not cheap, but good stuff seldom is.

My experience with oem Tokico shocks hasn't been very favorable. They tend to have flabby valving and be relatively short-lived.

Here's my review of Bilstein shocks:

Personally, i would stick with OEM if you want a smooth ride.
