I just received my credit back for the 4th gen calipers I sent back for the core charge. Apparently they don't mind if they are different.

Well, I just discovered my front calipers are done. 3 out of 8 pistons are seized, which I discovered during my front brake job today. I did the rears last year, and discovered the seized rotor issues that plague these trucks, so I should've seen this coming.

I used NAPA Eclipse calipers, Centric rotors, and Hawk LTS pads when I redid the rear. Today I had new Centric rotors and LTS pads ready to go on the front when I found the caliper problem.

While shopping for calipers online, I noticed that NAPA doesn't seem to have a matching set of Eclipse calipers for the front in the "13WH" casting (larger brakes, SE) so I started looking for other options and stumbled across this thread!!

The crappy thing is that I have to return my 4th gen rotors to Amazon if I do this. I'll be able to use the pads since they seem to be the same between 4th/5th gen from what I'm reading, but I don't think it's a good idea to use the 4th gen rotors...

Why didn't I see this thread 3 weeks ago before I ordered my parts?!

This morning I found the NAPA Eclipse 13WH calipers (4th gen) on their site. They weren't showing up in the search results on my phone.

Decisions, decisions!!

If I could get NAPA Eclipse versions of the 5th gen calipers, I would just go that route so I could pick them up and exchange the cores locally. It doesn't seem like NAPA has any calipers for 5th gen, probably because there hasn't been a need. I guess that's a good thing!

I see that Rock Auto is a $75.00 core charge for these 5th gen calipers. How much did you all pay for shipping to send back your cores? I've never done core charge parts exchange through the mail, and I'm trying to get a rough idea how much it's actually going to cost me in the end.

$14.00 was taken off of my 150 return for shiping, from NY to AZ

I am very curious if 5th gen owners will start having caliper issues as well. If they don't then that will make me go even more crazy. I just can't figure out why the 4th Gen is the only other Toyota/Lexus model that have these caliper issues. Why why why....

Someone that orders these calipers needs to take them apart along with the original caliper and see if there's any differences.

Has anyone tried to put phenolic pistons into a 4th gen caliper? I wonder if that would stop the corrosion.

I'm really interested in this as well. Only thing is that I'm running an 08 SR5 with 17" wheels so I'm not sure if I will have to upgrade rotors in addition to cutting the dust shield or not.

Either way, I can feel my rear caliper sticking so I think its time for a replacement. May as well try it out and see how it goes.

Just replaced my front 2 calipers again this weekend, seems to be a yearly thing now. I think this is the 4th year in a row I've had to do at least 1 caliper.

If I didn't already have the NAPA calipers w/ lifetime warranty, I would have spent money on the 5th gen calipers.

From all the information I've seen, the SR5 rotors are smaller, even if you have the 17" wheels. So you will need rotors.

Awesome, thanks. The rears are noticeably sticking so I'll go ahead and replace those now with 5th gen calipers and new rotors. The front pads and rotors are new (as of 10k miles ago) and calipers are not sticking yet so I'll replace those when (not IF) they start sticking.

Hearing that 5th gen calipers bolt onto 4th gen has made me feel much better about the only real problem I ever worried about with this vehicle.

So, will the larger 4th gen rotors that I already have work with 5th gen calipers? I thought I'd have to switch rotors too...

Can anyone confirm this?
