It's been a long time coming. I've lurked on here since I bought my 4Runner back in January of 2008. It was a 2007 leftover and I got it for less than $12k off sticker price.
I was immediately in love with it. Growing up, my parents owned Land Cruisers. They are by far the most over-engineered trucks on the road today. Nothing comes even remotely close. Period. The 4Runner is a great compromise, particularly ones with the V8 which is a direct transplant from the Land Cruiser.
My first mod was a hardwired Escort 9500i. Using the standard 12V socket looks janky. I purchased the smart cord and wired it directly to the map lights. I ran the mute button to a blank next to the center differential lock. The detector is mounted next to the rear view mirror; out of my line of sight and virtually undetectable to would-be thieves.
Next, I installed a custom stereo. I have a Kenwood DDX 712 with Garmin Navigation (which is pathetically out of date) and an Alpine PDX amplifier for my JL component and coaxial door speakers. In the rear, I have an Audioque AQ2200D powering two 12" Type R subs. My trunk is worthless - especially since I keep my spare tire there after my OEM one was stolen.
Today, I'm sentimentally attached to it. It's never left me stranded, has moved me across the country more than once, has been around the United States and is still my daily driver. The odometer rolled over 145k miles a few weeks ago. The original XREAS suspension was completely worn out. I decided to completely rebuild the front end with new OEM LCA's, Camburg Uniball UCA's, Energy Suspension F/R sway bar bushings, and Billstein 6112's and 5100's. I also added a rear DS Daystar 1.5" spacer to eliminate the driver side lean.
I ended up with about a 3/3 lift. I prefer some rake, if you actually "level" the wheel wells you will look ridiculous driving if you have any weight in the rear. Besides, there is inherently more wheel travel in the rear so there needs to be more space between the fender and tire.
I spent 6 hours detailing it yesterday. Inside, outside, engine bay. The full treatment: wash, clay bar, polish, and wax. It was desperately needing a detail after only getting machine washes for the last three years since moving to Chicago.

Lookin' good dude! Couple of questions for ya though.
First off, what did you take these photos on? Really digging your style! I'm a photographer and I just think your photos look fantastic.
And two, how do you like the scanguage? I am thinking about picking one up in the future, but I am not sure about it yet. May look at an Ultraguage too. How's the overall experience?

Thank you sir! Photography is a pretty serious hobby of mine. These were taken on a Nikon D800 w/ 24-70mm f2.8 lens. I have a full blown RRS support setup, B+W/LEE Filters etc. These photos were all taken this morning. Quick pass in LR and PS6.
Yes, I love the Scan Gauge. I bought it more for the different operating readouts than using the advanced trip computer. I stopped using the trip computer after about a month. I like seeing the pan/torque converter temperatures, water temperature, and intake temp. I change them base on my curiosity. I never looked into the Ultra Gauge so I couldn't tell you anything about it.

Really Great looking pics - let's see the subs! Did you do a lot of sound deadening?

No sound deadening. When I was younger, the 2200W RMS in the trunk sounded "great". Now I have the gain turned way down for superior SQ. It's still the best sounding system of ANY I have heard in a car. I have to get the spare under the truck again - with a chain/lock. I also want to get a single box as my trunk is ridiculous now that I'm 'old'. And no, that's not my yoga mat.

Yeah - I've always liked those Type R's and Alpine stuff in general. I used to run a lot of very loud systems, but can't spare the trunk space anymore due to the 300lbs of dog that I regularly cart around. Really like your install - I've been thinking about upgrading mine as well. what adapters did you use for the wiring / controls?
Very clean ride, mine hasn't been so fortunate here in Ontario winters.

Trust me, mine sees it's fair share of winter. It looks like that for months. I'm actually really lucky because the surface rust is just starting underneath. I want to apply a rust converter (Corroseal), paint, and fluid film the entire under carriage before this winter. The only issue I had is completely frozen LCA alignment cams which is why I replaced the arms entirely. I honestly forget what adapters I used for the head unit. I didn't bother re-wiring my steering wheel controls at the time. That's on my to-do list. I use the remote that came with it. Wiring is all 0/1GA for the amps off of the single battery.

Great truck and pictures!
Quick question: what code did you use on scan-gauge to get Torque Converter temp?

God that photo setup.... I'm still rocking my trusty D7000, but I want to upgrade to a D750 or maybe even a Sony A7rII eventually. Too bad all of my recent money went into the 4runner
And thanks for the info on the scangauge!

Thanks!
Try these, I think these are valid for 05+ FJ's, Tacomas, and 4Runners.
