Parking Lights vs Running Lights
I have a sport edition that has the corner lights on all the time. I feel like I'm driving with the parking lights on. I've even be told this by other motorist. Incidently, all three times were by old guys driving buicks (I don't know the connection is)
How do I shut these off? If I drive with the lights on to compensate, I forget shut them off (no alarm sounds)
I know I can put in the relay that gives me DRL. Is this my only option? Won't I blow through bulbs every three months? What if I change to corner light to white.

The corner lights are the DRL's, so search the forum for the DRL disable instructions. I thought other people were running around with their parking lights on, too, until I got the 4Runner and found out that's a new a way doing the DRL's. I figure it's changing because people are afraid of burning out their headlight bulbs when they're used as the DRL's.
If those corner lights are also the turn signals, then turning them white could be illegal in some states, so you'd have to research that first.
Your headlights should shut themselves off - that's why there's no warning. If you take the key out of the ignition and close all the doors, then the lights should shut off in 30 seconds. Even if you leave a door open, they'll shut off in 30 minutes if the key is off. Finally, you can force them to shut off iimmediately by pressing "Lock" twice on the wireless remote.

Personally, I don't mind the amber DRLs. I think they make the 4Runner stand out from a distance. Those old guys driving Buicks probably noticed your amber DRLs from a distance and avoided hitting you, which is a good thing, IMHO.
I've noticed more GM vehicles that also use the amber turn signals as DRLs (the full size Chevy and GMC vans come to mind).

Plus I get an insurance discount for having them.
A WIN-WIN IMHO.

I like them: it makes it easy to spot other new 4Runners.
C5 and C6 Vettes are easy to spot for the same reason.

I replaced the amber bulbs for a set of "hyper-white" bulbs. It's got the blue finish on it, so it looks cool when it's off.
When driving the lights look like a dim(bright enough) fog light (with a blue hue). It looks really cool.
I think it's illegal in CA to have signal lights other than amber. I'll take my chances. The worst that can happen is to get a fix-it ticket. I'm betting on the cops having somthing better to do than pull me over for this.
I'll post some pics tomorrow.

White or amber up front, and amber or red in the rear for turn signals in CA.

I knew about the amber or red in the rear turn signal, but I didn't know white was ok for the front...
So, I guess, I'm ok with the "hyper white" bulbs up front.
I just ordered a set of chrome coated (amber) turn signal bulb for the back. I'll report in after the install.
