This is the only open top 4th gen I've ever seen pics of.

Not sure. I only saw the pic real quick. I was pretty sure it was a 4th gen with the back cut off and turned into a bed. It had a lift, roof rack, sliders i think the whole nine yards.

OK, I wasn't being a smart alec, but to be honest why would someone want to convert their SUV into a truck that is already commercially available, and better than a home-built job?

@purplepenguin that thing is an abomination. I'd rather have a Subaru Baja, at least you could fit a bicycle in the back of those.

The one I thought of as well was this white one above. I do believe that I saw a black one too, but I can't remember if it was on this site or not

There is one 4th gen that has been chopped. It was originally for sale several months ago up in Oregon/Canada area. Have not seen him join. He does post occasionally on the facebook 4runner groups. It's a great looking truck!

I kind of think its Bad Ass but I'm a sucker for sht like that. I wonder how much it cost him to make that conversion. Had to have been like 10-15k right?

You really shouldn't have to want to do something like that in order to appreciate how well it was done and the amount of work that went into it. I certainly wouldn't do it to my truck but I'm still impressed.

I'm really surprised that so many posts are so critical.

The white one isn't the one I saw. It was deffinately black. The bed looked real clean on that one. I don't really like the white one because of the bars. I was thinking of doing it to my 2nd gen. Then decided I want to make a removeable top.

So, from my understanding... this is usually done because severe damage has been inflicted to the D-Pillar area and it's easier to justify chopping and converting it into a be rather than trying to restore/reframe the area.
