Arrow Roof Rack Question

Hey everyone,

I know nothing about roof racks so I'm seeking your advice for my '04 V6 SR5!

I'm wondering if anyone has any leads on where I can find the following:
  1. a general-purpose roof rack
  2. can hold at least 150lbs
  3. is versatile for carrying different types of equipment
    (*)is under $350CAD

I'm also wondering:
  • I have nothing on my roof at all except the holes. What do I need to mount a roof rack?

Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated!

Issue you have is static weight.
The rating on these is for static weight. You must be careful. I do think you may be getting close to the limit with that weight.
Your best bet is to find a nice used unit on CL.
Good luck. . .I do know I love standing and walking around on my roofrack for getting that better picture from a different perspective!

X2 on the Rola Rack. It sounds like you're gonna have more problems finding the stock rails. Maybe someone on here will have an unused set. I love my Rola Rack.

Thanks guys! From what I can tell the Rola mounts to the crossbars eh.

And I'd definitely love if anyone was selling their stock rails!

It does, but some people on here have fabbed up their own legs to the rack and bolted it directly to the truck.

So I think this meets your criteria?

https://www.yakima.com/railgrab

$284 for 149.91 lbs.

I will be putting this on my '06 with 66" crossbars.

On everyone of my 3rd gens I have had Yakima, but a different style system. I had oversize crossbars at one point they were 78". I have put at least 4-6 kayaks on it with each one weighing minimum of 50lbs. That means minimum of 200lbs if not closer to 35lbs0. Drove it on the highway just fine.

Yakima also has unbelievable customer service and that keeps me coming back.

You do need the stock rails though.

I would also check places like ebay or ORSracks, etc. for deals on the racks.
Here is one for $200
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Yakima-Railg...item1a043d0774

P.S.
I have no affiliation with Yakima and I actually have a Thule T2 hitch rack.

Roof Rack Question

I would save up some more $$ and buy a full rack that replaces all the stock crap. I ran a BajaRack and it was rock solid. Gobi also makes a full rack too. It's more than $350 Canadian, but well worth it.

Here's a pic of my 4Runner with the BajaRack. It mounts where the stock roof rack mounted.

I'm going with the platform from rhino rack myself. Solid guys. Great product and they stand behind it too. I just love the flat style.

The baja rack is awesome and well worth the money. It might be overkill for what you are going to use it for.

I would go with the Rola over the yakima though. The Yakima is just too tall. I had the big yakima and was getting like 11 mpg on the highway.

Edit: Just read that you don't have the stock crossbars. In that case I would just buy a Baja Rack.

Armor tech off road makes a low pro mount for the rola rack so that it doesn't sit so high. I run this setup. themuffinman's Mall Crawler

^ Yes ^ you can get the lowering brackets from Armor tech off road and they work great for the Rola rack! I have the Rola rack with extension with the lowering brackets and it's rock solid! There's tons of pics in my build thread of my rack and even pics of the brackets when i installed them on Pg 2.
