What models are available with V8

I've been thinking about upgrading my 4Runner where I would keep my current one and get a 2nd one with 4WD. However during my search online, it seems like majority of 4Runners available for sale (private/public) only have V6 with 4WD otherwise others are V8 + SR5 (2WD). Is this pretty common or what?

My question to you guys is this: Are there V8 models that also have 4WD and if so, which ones are they so I can keep a look out for it (sports limited edition, etc etc) ?

To be honest, I really want a V8 4th generation that has 4WD but if there are none, I am going to upgrade to a 5th generation even though there are no V8 Models available, yet which is unfortunate. It is odd they did not roll out V8 for 5th generation 4Runners but I guess to each his own, I suppose...

Thx

I am currently driving a SR5 '04 4Runner with V8

The V8 - 4WD combination was available in every trim level from 2003-2008.

Are you up here in VT? Pretty much every 4R you look at up here will be 4WD. Where are you looking?

Ohh no, I'm definitely nowhere close to VT, USA

VT.edu is a collegiate website for Virginia Tech which is located in Virginia

I suppose it's just the area I am in...I'm living in Blacksburg, Virginia for school but my home is in Virginia Beach, Virginia where we do not get enough snowfall compared to other states.

Been looking at Toyota-certified dealerships / autotrader / Carmax and nothing stood out / had anything I was looking for in particular. May wait it out for few more months in case a V8 & 4WD combo comes on the market otherwise I am just going to end up with a 5th gen!

I got my V8 4WD at Berglund Oakridge in Lynchburg last year. They are around. The issue is definitely demographic - you're in one of the few areas in VA that actually would benefit from 4WD. Everywhere East of you has no real reason for it, and that's where all the dealerships are.

Another issue is that nobody gets rid of 4Runners.

Nope. There are definitely V8's with 2WD.

That is why my current 4R was so cheap when it was on the lot... $15k at 60k miles or something like that

I almost bought that V8 at Berglund. I think I know exactly which truck that is, haha.

No manuals have been offered in a 4Runner since the 3rd Gen bodystyle.

I bit the bullet and paid the higher price + shipping with Carmax...

I also wanted V8 4WD + Limited + Driftwood Pearl so yea it was quite specific,
but this will be my forever rig (I hope!)...bought a 05'RSX for commuting and the in-town abuse...the T4R doesnt need all that stop and go !

The 4.7 is a pretty ordinary motor anyway, hence the V8 never sold in as large numbers as a V8 should have. Barely makes any more power than a V6, increased maintenance costs (timing belt, cracked manifolds), lower mpg. Higher tow rating, but even the V6 has more than enough towing capacity for most people, so..

This is an age old debate about the 4.7, and I expect a bunch of guys to jump in and contradict me. But I am a firm believer that the 4.7 V8 was perfectly OK to pass on. Just 35 more hp and 35 more ft-lbs for all the hassle? No thanks. Afterall, there is a reason why they killed it for the 5th gens.

Now give me the more modern 4.6 or better yet 5.7 in a 4R, and I'll be first in line.
