I'm currently down here on the Outer Banks, my first trip here w/ my 05 4Runner V8. A note to anyone heading to the beach, disengage the VSC/Traction Control before hitting the sand. I tried driving with it engaged (tires down between 18-20lbs) for a while but couldn't take the constant beeping and control the rig was taking over. Disengage & you'll be he much happier person, and your 4Runner will do sooo much better. Has anyone else noticed the same thing? For a while I was wishing I had my old Mazda back. However, now without it thinking for itself, it's awesome on the beach.
Traction control (ATRAC) canNOT be turned off in 4wd 4runners. Locking the center diff only turns off VSC (stability control)...ATRAC is on all the time.
Sorry, Locking the center diff is what I meant. And VSC does kill your momentum. Note to self, lock the center diff & your good to go, it's been a beast ever since.
