Question for 4th gen rooftop tent owners.

I have an UrbanRunner with stock roof racks and I recently bought a badass rooftop tent. I'm trying to work out if you all leave your tents on at all times? If you take it off and put it on every time? What's the go?

It took me about an hour and a lot of frustration to get all the nuts off the bottom to be able to get it off my roof last time as there's SO little room between it and the roof.. and no room to get under the racks to get them off that way. It's also just me and my wife, and she's not strong enough to help me put it on and off every time.. and my garage roof isn't tall enough for the car + tent to fit under.

Is this much easier if I get an aftermarket roof rack? Are these much easier to work with in regards to putting on and taking the tent off each time? I live in Colorado and go camping every couple of weekends so I can see not using it if it's this much of a hassle every time.

I can't answer your question but I found RTT's to be a major bummer. Not only does it add a lot of weight up top but setting it up/ taking it down isn't much fun. I used mine for a year and sold it choosing a small trailer instead. At least with a trailer you can unhook it once and carry on with the day and not have to set it up all over again that night.

I see a lot of people leaving then on full time but that's gotta hurt mpg' in a major way. I put mine on only when heading out but it got old real quick.
