Shrockworks Hella Turn Signals

Just replaced the Shrockworks' Hella turn signals on my bumper with new ones as the ones that came with the bumper eventually burned up. The bulbs (1157A) eventually ran so hot they were melting the terminals on the bulbs themselves, blackening the plastic housing and melting the lens covers. I used just two wires that were out of the OEM daytime running lights/turn signals on each side and they worked for a few years with normal bulb changes. Eventually, terminals in the housings were overcome by the heat and needed replacement. So, got the new ones and installed them just as the previous ones were installed using just two wires (like the OEM turn signals) out of the three on the Hella harness. This time it didn't work. I had to use all three wires from the Hella harness and install my own ground wire on each side to attach to the previously unused wire on each harness. I thought that with the three wires, one filament of the bulb would act as the running light and one for the turn signal. However, only one filament does both; the other does not light but I need the three wires connected or I get a very dim "quick" flash (it gives indication that the rear bulb is blown). My question is why I needed to install a different ground this time and why both filaments are not being utilized.

Mine melted too, my decision was to go with LED's from the local parts store. Right now I'm using a set that has a single bulb (trailer marker light) which isn't really bright enough but works. Sometime I'll step up the a multi-bulb light but this is an easy, cheap, and efficient alternative.

I know I didn't answer your wiring question but my current setup uses just two wires.

Use these...they're great!

https://www.superbrightleds.com/more...tput-leds/588/

And these need to be incorporated to eliminate the LED hyp;er-flash...

This will not help you in your query but these are what i used and they've been working excellent for the past couple years since installed...

Any updates? I went to replace mine today, and am in the same situation. Connected red-red and white-white, green open or green grounded and it is fast blinking.

Did you add a resistor to eliminate hyperflash?

No resistor - I had the wiring wrong... I did a straight update with the latest version that Shrockworks is installing. So these are not leds.

It went ok - however, the o-ring is very loose, and fell out of the new units. I had to search the area to find them.

I soldered the connections, didn't connect the third wire, and it's working great.

The previous units were completely finished, basically the housing was breaking apart as I removed them.

One other thing - I put the screws in the bumper sticking inward, so the head of the screw is set inside the housing. That made it super easy to put the nuts on and hand tighten. Putting the washer behind the metal housing / support for the turn signal is a nightmare to install/uninstall.

I also removed the headlights (20 second job) to work from above which was way nicer.

Sorry, I misunderstood. Probably because I used led's when my originals melted. Glad you got it working.
