My town is flooded, might have flooded my engine. What can I do to fix it?
I had to pick up my sister and got to a point where it was either try to keep going forward or stop in tire deep water. Got home and took my intake apart and it actually seemed to be pretty dry in there so I'm hoping it's just some fried electronics. Lights and radio all still come on so I'm not sure. If it just needs to dry out and not be rebuilt what can I do to better protect my rig from such deep water?

I can turn the key and cut on the radio, etc. If I try to crank it it clicks and everything cuts back off. The water came to about the top of the tires.

Strange because I have been in water way higher than my tires and never had an issue. Maybe you just have a dead battery? Try giving it a jump off of another car

My dad's pretty good and checked it out and he's leaning towards the starter. Might've fried the alternator as well. I'm letting it dry out over night and hopefully the rain will clear up long enough tomorrow to really get into it.

Perhaps toasted alternator (you should have seen charge light illuminate if it wasn't charging though), but I would first do what was suggested and either jump or charge your battery and go from there.

Okay thanks. I'll post the results of that tomorrow and see where to go from there.

if you can hear the starter clicking its either a stuck solenoid in the starter or a lack of power and/or a ground fault. id see you can get it started off of a fresh battery and go from there

My car got flooded two years ago,was lucky to even find a guy who would try getting it fixed. It ended up costing $1,500 dollars and airbag red warning light is still on. I have a feeling you are in for a very high cost fix if it can be fixed. you just might be looking at a total.
Hope i am wrong and good luck.

I don't think it's a total, or even a flood situation. I think you've run into a coincidence, and you've got a bad alternator, solenoid, or starter as was previously mentioned. Don't hit the panic button yet.

This sounds like a voltage issue. If you'd hydrolocked the motor you'd get a clunk, not a click, and the electrics wouldn't cut out. My money is on a bad battery or connection.

When I hyrdrolocked my motor all I got was a click. No clunk or anything weird noises, it was just like my battery died. Granted, when I pulled my intake off, about a gallon of muddy water fell out, so I doubt thats what happened to the OP's truck. I agree with battery, or starter

Bad starter. I sunk mine about 3 months ago with water over the hood and i experienced exactly what you are. Try tapping the drum of the starter with a metal object (wrench, socket, hammer, etc) with medium force and have someone try to crank it. Some times this can get your starter to work again for a day. Id replace the starter, if its not the starter then you can always just get a refund. Luckily im in Simpsonville and we dont really have any major rivers or lakes around us so we are drying up. Good luck with the flooding, prayers are going out to everyone effected by the flooding.

this has been my experience with hydro-locked engines also.
I think that if there is ANY chance water got into the intake, the smart move is to pull the plugs, then crank it over. it may take a bit of time, but the alternative could be a damaged engine.

I find it unlikely he drove home with a hydrolocked engine.
