Drove to KC and back to see the parents, their new Jeep, and go to an offroad expo.
Saw my first 2020 Supra in a parking lot next to the mexican restaurant we ate at.
Got 13.3mpg and noticed I was around 2500rpm the whole time at 80mph so the 2000rpm 'sluggish zone', if it does exist, wouldn't come into play at interstate travel. Another way to look at it is that I'm in the poweband. Cruise control and no downshifting whatsoever is nice, and the exhaust noise is completely washed out by tire noise and a little wind noise which is good.
Got to drive this beast and it was fun even though it was cold out. Basic Chevy 350, 40's, 4 speed auto, fully tig welded cage looks awesome, 14bolt rear, 60 front / auto lockers. One major design flaw; the exhaust is way too quiet. I'm getting some ideas on how to fix that. It probably only puts out 200hp at the crank so that's why they can get away with 2" into 2.25" exhaust. But even with a single muffler its dead silent when coasting and might as well be a 6 cylinder under load.
The offroad show wasn't that big but they had a couple of cool Jeeps like this one that raced in the KOH. Full tube frame w/ LS7 power. Loved the orange painted breaker bar mounted on the cage.

It's been awhile since I've check out your build! Last time I looked you were working on the air compressor setup! I really appreciate the sound of you custom exhaust and the work done on it! I am currently looking into a welder "I'd say beginner status" but still. Looking to get into it now.
Thanks for all your motivation and work, pushes a lot of us forward

Glad you like it! It's turned into quite the rabbit hole for me.

What's the general consensus on swapping to an FJ fuel tank? $350 on ebay, and it gains me a couple inches of clearance on the underbelly, and a lighter weight-plastic skid plate which works fairly well, at least it doesn't dent in like our metal ones. Of course its only 19 gallons but other than that... It looks to be a direct bolt in/ plug in. Anything I'm missing?
I found info on a SAS thread where he was able to raise the tank with some fabrication, 1". That with the FJ tank it'll be well above the frame rails, good potential clearance for Rubicon 2020.
I've wanted to swap to a full custom tank under the hatch but this might hold me over until I'm ready for all that fabrication.

I just remembered the SAS guy has rear 3 link, so I can't raise mine up any, the driver side rear upper link is directly above the cutout in the tank. Time to look into 3 link for a Dana 60.

First time trying out the weld table, and first time 'walking the cup'. Nice unicorn puke colors. Are my welds ready for instagram?
Check out the clamps I made.

Sprayed fluid film inside my frame last week, it'll work well with the Eastwood internal frame coating I have already done.
Finally welded in some exhaust hangers for my dual system. All ready to get my DT LT headers installed.
Been researching AFR and EGT gauges, would be easy to install them with my equipment. I'll need to fabricate a gauge mount for 3 or 4 gauges. AFR/EGT/Trans Temp/Boost. Don't really need EGT I guess but it would be cool I think.
Looking at switching over to 1/8" AR400 skid plates for weight savings. My brother can get a 5x8 sheet at work for $350, but also emailed Coastal Offroad to see if they can make some custom skids for us, I like their design. Welding it shouldn't be much more difficult than regular steel.
I used an O2 bung extension because the wiring was too short to reach, however this still causes the dash lights to pop on so I'll be ordering a harness extension.

I have the Torque Pro app I been using. It shows engine and trans temp, but no AFR unfortunately. It does show and allow you to log your short and long term fuel trims, which might help with tuning in the future. I wish it had the AFR. My 5th gen reads AFR, but the 03' doesn't for whatever reason.

Doing some research both gens use a wideband sensor upstream and a narrowband sensor downstream, so I'm not sure why the 5th gen works.
I might try that app on mine to get rid of my monitoring bug.

Yea I've been reading up on trying to tune this V8 when I get the headers installed.
Gadget said the Fuel trims that Torque provides will work, but I would need an AFR gauge to complete my data gathering for making tuning adjustments. He does have a Tundra map I thought about trying when I buy his MAF calibrator.
I still have a shit ton to learn though.
I wonder if there is an equation out there there that would open up the AFR readout on Torque for the 4th gen.
For my 5th gen to read pan and converter temps on Torque, I had to enter a custom pid with an equation that the Prius guys hacked. Someone tried it on the 5th gen and it worked. Been using it for years to keep the trans temps in check.
I would love to find something like this for the AFR readout on the 4th gen. Then you could record the fuel trims and AFR simultaneously with the logging feature in Torque Pro. And not spend a bunch of money on software. But going cheap is more trouble than it's worth sometimes.

No, Toyota hasn't made a solid front axle vehicle for a very long time, in the US at least.
Not to say I couldn't swap it myself.
10.5" 07+ tundra rear, Land Cruiser 9.5" front, 40" tires, exo cage?
