Yes rear-mount turbo or 40-42" tires and solid front axle. The thing is I don't want to go back to dailying my 4Runner when its tires cost almost $400 each. So a solid axle swap will happen when I get a different place without my 2 brothers as roommates or someone moves out so I can by a 3rd as a daily driver.

Gotcha. Those big boy tires are expensive, I totally understand not wanting to daily them. Both directions sounds neat and I definitely enjoy the progress pictures.

Thanks for the compliments guys.

The Tundra, I've come to find, is almost a perfect daily driver. Easy to get in and out of, decent ride, lots of interior room/headroom, great visibility, a seat that resembles a couch, and a bed for weekend projects. I think maybe 15 or 16 for mpg is the only real gripe besides no cruise control for interstate travel.

I may have to buy two of these one as the offroader, the other to keep for a DD. The short bed swap should be easier the second time around.

I agree. My dad has a 1st gen Tundra that he bought brand new in 2000 and I've always loved that truck. TBH sometimes I wish the Runner felt like the Tundra in a couple of ways, for instance the steering feel in the Tundra I think is the best of any truck I've driven. I think my only complaint is that they feel a little too light in the rear, which is an issue on most trucks, but I don't feel it's as bad on more modern pickups.

No Creepy Crawl event this year at KS Rocks, so we went to Tuttle instead.







Installed a new bumper on the Tundra. It's too nice. The old one was mostly rusted through.
Shop is still working on the driveshaft.

I would buy a cheap decal remover wheel to get rid of your residue from the molding removal.

I was just looking at some of those wheels. I think it would work well for the trim adhesive and the pinstripes. Can't wait to be able to drive it, then I can work on washing the bed and detailing it heavily.

I took the little black and chrome wheel well flares off the bed, just a few screws and clips, and underneath rust is starting in a couple spots and the white paint is flaking off in fairly large chunks. Maybe I'll try respraying that area, or just paint the whole truck a different color.

That and I need a new latch handle for the tailgate, which is $90 for the Toyota part. Not sure I want to spend that kind of money.

New driveshaft is in, Tundra runs and drives. Steering wheel is 20 degrees (not much) to the right, which means the driver's frame rail is shorter than the passenger's side and it drives somewhat crooked down the road.

Either I recut the passenger frame rail and shorten (lots of access room on that side) or pivot the rear axle somehow (leaf springs) or live with it until the next phase (linking the rear).

Personally I’d say cut the passenger frame rail to match. but Im also too ocd about knowing that kind of stuff it’d bother me if it was my truck

Not being a fabricator such as yourself, most of this is way over my head. But, you might want to take a step back, measure it all again and make sure everything else is equal before chopping into the frame again.

My buddies 3rd gen Taco is a little out and crab walking a tiny bit after his lift install, but no one can really narrow down why.

Definitely curious what the outcome will be.
