Long term review on this - 3 years as a Daily driver weekend wheeler. The locker was awesome. It started to have a very faint click when on pavement after about 2 years but not really loud enough that it bugged me.
If I had to lock another 8" diff, I would go the same one.

I'm trying to decide on what to do about my open rear diff. It is not a daily, but it is driven a decent amount each year ~10,000mi. Lots of highway mileage mixed with a decent amount of moderate off-road trails (Maine to the San Juan mountains).
I have been considering the eaton truetrac or the zip locker, however, the price disparity is huge, and I would love a full locker. The grizzly locker seems like a solid middle ground, but everyone seems to think you'll end up dying whenever it snows or rains. Since you wheel in the Pacific NW what has your experience been?
I am curious if you would be tempted to recommend it for a 3rd gen 8in rear? My truck is 96' with part time 4wd. Heavy front bumper with winch, heavy rear bumper sometime this year. 285/55/r16 and 2in lift.

I know this is an old thread, but....
I have a 2005 4.7 V8 AWD and am considering a Yukon Grizzly locker. It looks like the part # is YGLTV6-30
V6/Turbo 8" - 30 spline - 10 bolt.
Can anyone confirm this?
Anymore user feedback on this combo?

It looks like the right one. YGLTV6-30: Yukon Grizzly Locker for Toyota V6
I'm also interested in how this drives on road/in the rain. I already can get rotation in the rain as it is, but traction control always spoils the fun anyway lol. I may go this route down the road as well.
Price seems reasonable, I can even get it delivered Prime...hmmm... Amazon.com: Yukon Gear YGLTV6-30 Differential-30 Spline Grizzly Locker for Toyota V6: Automotive

In the 4runners that I've had With Tru trac, detroit,ARB,Electric here's what I found
Tru trac- don't waste your money, didn't give me the traction I needed when I needed it the most.
Detroit- great option on a budget, great traction but got tired of dragging tires in tight radius turns on pavement, tired of hearing popping, clicking and banging when it lets lose, hated it on slippery road conditions, also required more steering input by me making turns as having locked rear wheels wants to push you straight through everything.
ARB- beautiful locker when you need it,no issues except leaking lines that caused the compressor to run more than needed until I fixed the leaks,no biggie. On demand air to fill tires is a plus although I never set it up to do that.Requires you to maintain compressor and air lines, not really that big of a deal.
Electric-My favorite on demand locker when you need it. Been using this option the last two years and will probably never go back to any other locker, have yet to have a problem. I put it in and forgot about it. The only slight con to the Elocker is it doesn't unlock instantly, depending on the road surface it may take a few feet on soft ground or 100yrds on asphalt.

Awful, your runner will do things you didn't think was possible at the worst time .
If you like drifting around curves on snowy or wet roads than you will like a 100% locker on a daily driver.
There is a reason why open diffs are the choice for driving on the road.Just my experience,I'm sure people will chime in and say they are great but in the mountains with icy, snowy roads a detroit on pavement is a white knuckle driving experience.

Get a third gen e locker! no question that would be the way to go. Relatively cheap(i bought 2 under $300) You would have no cost of ring and pinion gear set up,it's a direct bolt in,they sell a inexpensive wiring harness to bypass factory computer components.
PM me if you want more info.

Interesting. Are you AWD as well, or 2wd/4wd? Curious if it would be better AWD.

Good question, this was a 2wd/4wd application. You should really seek other opinions if you have awd as that might do some weird things everyday driving.Another con to a Detroit is if you do a lot of in town driving where you must make tight turns to park, the locker makes it a big pain as it will kill your turning radius.

From what I gather, the Yukon doesn't bind nearly as much as a Detroit, hence the interest. But hell, if I can get an e-locker for that cheap, that might be the way to go.
