Icon coilivers Standard travel vs Extended travel

So this Black Friday/Cyber Monday I will be purchasing some Icon coilivers for the Runner. I will also be getting the eBay uniball UCA's.

My question is, whats the different between the Standard Icon coilivers and the Extended travel? Obviously the extended travel have more travel, but then why don't people just always buy those? Can I use the Extended travel coilivers with a uniball UCA?

And, I've heard of people outperforming the Icon 2.0 rear shocks. Retail they cost more than the Fox 2.0 rears (which I've heard good things about), but with these sales the Icons are cheaper. Should I just go for the Icons in the rear instead of Fox?

Their website is not too clear and may even be wrong I don't know. But I was under the impression that the extended travel ones gave you like an extra 1/2 travel for use with their UCA. But you wouldn't want to use it with a stock UCA or you might damage it by tweaking the ball joint.

I'd just write them and ask, but if you are getting an aftermarket UCA and coilovers at the same time you can probably go with the extended ones. Though I'd probably stick to Icon + Icon just to be sure in that case.

I do NOT think you want to put extended on with the stock UCA though.

Again, best to ask them directly.

If you are planning to lift the front 2.5-3", then for proper alignment you will need to get some aftermarket UCAs. The Extended Travel Icons simply allow for up to about 1" of additional Down Travel when used with a uni-ball set of UCAs.

So if you are getting the UCAs anyway, then definitely go for the Extended Travel Versions.

I don't know about the ebay UCAs though....

I asked the question "if the UCA are needed" and the rep at the ICON stated unless I do severe off road I can run with my regular OME UCA for 15000 miles they are meant to be run even with extended travel on a regular but I intend on purchasing the UCA
