100k + Oil Changes. Conventional, synthetic blend, full synthetic?
For you guys with 100,000 miles, what oil are you running? Still running conventional, or have you moved over to a synthetic blend or a full synthetic? My 'Runner is a DD and I plan to keep it awhile and want to keep it in top running condition. Thanks.

I've been recommended to use a high mileage blend of dino and synthetic by the local dealer. Our Toyota folks put Kendall's Blend in my one owner, dealer maintained '99. Gonna keep going in that direction...
Use Mobil 1 in my '03 Mercedes E320 and Walmart's SuperTech Synthetic in my '95 Miata. The Miata uses some oil and the Benz will drop a couple quarts out of the 8 qts. it takes between oil changes.

High mileage engine oil has special additives for high mileage engines. Itll provided added seal & wear protection. I run full synthetic plus a bottle of high mileage oil additive, engine seems to be quieter during 0* start ups. I went through this topic during my dealership training with Castrol.
I've always been a Quaker State guy but has now switched to Castrol.

Regardless of mileage:
a) I run PENNZOIL PLATINUM now in the vehicles, I care less about:
- Like my 2005 Jimmy 4x4 or my 1998 Silverado 4x4 pickup. Very decent oil I can often find on sale.
^^ Maybe marketed like Mobile1, as a Full Synthetic motor oil / but truly isn't, considering the petroleum base stock.
a1) WIX Gold filter, from NAPA/UAP...was using WIX Silver brand, but recently upgraded / FRAM quality, is a JOKE.
b) I run AMSOIL Signature Series in the vehicles, I do care about and plan on keeping for many years:
- Like my wife's v6 RAV4 Limited or my 2000 T4R SR5, plus my vintage John Deere 318 garden tractor with snow blower.
^^ Truly a Full Synthetic motor oil, right down to the additives & base stock.
b1) WIX Platinum (synthetic media) or AMSOIL filter (synthetic media)...both high filtration/extended oil change filters.
FYI: PENNZOIL PLATINUM® - Full Synthetic motor oil with PurePlus™ Technology.
- PurePlus™ Technology is a revolutionary process that converts natural gas into a 99.5% pure base oil. Combining it with high performance additives means Pennzoil Platinum® Full Synthetic motor oil is proven to keep pistons up to 40% cleaner1 than the toughest industry standard, based on ILSAC GF-5. Additionally, Pennzoil Platinum® keeps pistons up to 8% cleaner than Mobil 1 and up to 17% cleaner than Valvoline® SynPower®.

I run Mobile 1 high mileage in two of my rigs.I've been using Mobile 1 in my t4 since I purchased it with 21k on the odometer. This goes for the axles and t-case. The high mileage Mobile 1 claims to offer better high heat protection over the standard Mobile 1 in the same weight. Living in the desert southwest and off roading in the summertime, I'm looking for any added protection I can get.

Pennzoil yellow bottle 5-30 dino from day one, apparently only because as a youth I was once, drugged, kidnapped, and forced to watch Pennzoil commercials, Clockwork Orange style, for many weeks before being returned to the comfort of my home.
Vehicle has 140k that is probably more like 160k from an engine hours equivalency.

With my3rd Gen (I'm shopping 4th Gens now), nothing special.
Not even high mileage oil because I've changed about every 5k kms (3k miles) since new and have currently 524,000 kms (325,000 miles) with NO major engine repairs.
(1 starter, 2 alternators, 1 rad) and then belts & water pumps

Dont waste you're time with any high mileage additives. M1 Extended Performance Full Synthetic for the last 155k miles. Dont plan to change anything, ever. Operating temps range from -15F to 105F.

Follow these two easy steps:
1.) Conventional 5W-30 oil (whatever brand) and change it along with the filter at regular intervals. I use 5000 miles as my interval.
2.) Don't put another second of your life into thinking about how you can improve #1 above by using some silly additives or the latest greatest potion.
Hope that helps :-)

I use synthetics, typically Mobil 1, in my 4R and my wife's 3.2CL Type S.
On the other hand, I put whatever was on sale in the Xterra I drove for 11 years and never had any kind of engine issue.
I suspect the large majority of oils you can buy today, even SuperTech or whatever at Walmart, are good enough to ensure long engine life, but who knows? I did some research on high-mileage oils and the consensus seemed to be that they're unnecessary unless you're having any of the issues they're designed to address. Is there anything to suggest preventive properties that would merit using them before a problem exists?
My issue with all of it is whether there's science in play or just good marketing that steers people toward doing something about (and spending more $$ on) problems they don't even have.
Thoughts?

I was swayed away from mobile 1 years ago in nasioc...blew through and burned more than others...I was always under the impression that whatever youve been using since you bought it (conventional or synthetic), stick with that...it's more about the intervaland filter used that type/brand of oil...
Conventional oil with oem filter @ 5k intervals here
