Vsc, shimmy shimmy shake rattle & buzz

My last vehicle was a 2003 Chevy Trailblazer, 4x4, it had a couple settings for 4WD, one was a part time (if the back wheels slipped the front wheels engaged), then there was full time 4wd and then 4wd LO.

Pros: If I left in 2wd I could have fun
Cons: The front diff sucked and when in 4WD it really wasn't that good in the snow, even with brand new Firestone Destination ATs

I didn't know what to expect when I purchased the 4runner, I was thinking fun in the snow, doing wheel slides, burnouts til I needed new tires....Just kidding, but I did just find out about the VSC and I hate it. I was in my driveway with just a little snow the other night...just seeing how the truck reacted to the throttle and boy I was getting all sorts of racket and the throttle was acting weird, .... Do we have some sort of switch in the cab to turn if off? I took a look at my co workers Highlander and he has a VSC off button next to his steering wheel, all I have in mine is the Center Diff Lock, 115AC and RSCA buttons, was there certain models that have this???

Thanks
Larry

The only ones that came with a factory TRAC OFF switch were the 08-09 model years.

VSC will automatically disengage when you lock the center diff, but make sure not to do that on high traction surfaces.

If you want to turn off VSC/TRAC for a little fun, just unplug the brake fluid level sensor at the front of the brake reservoir on the master cylinder. That'll also turn off ABS though, so be mindful. Also, you have to cycle the key after you plug it back in to get things behaving properly again.

There is also a mod here to turn off the VSC via a switch.

Hope that helps!

Thanks

If you read though the thread a bit, he lists procedures for operating in 2wd w/ VSC disabled. Post #21.
