Battery Upgrade Suggestions

Quick rundown.... Upgraded the big 3. Plans are to install a new fuse box to support an air compressor, possibly a winch, and a couple light bars. Nothing crazy here. No need or desire for a 2 battery setup. Also worth mentioning that my current battery is showing signs of degrade.

What is a good quality upgrade for this single battery setup? Your experiences and suggestions are appreciated!

A lot of people go with the Odyssey 31M battery. It is way bigger than the stock battery and provides much more CCA and RC. Used to be a Sears Diehard Platinum version of this battery but they discontinued it. Only thing to note is that this battery is HEAVY (75lbs), and it will only make your driver side lean worse in the front unless you adjust your front coilovers. That's just what I have heard.

I am looking to upgrade my battery too, although I don't need a top of the line battery with absurd specs.I am going to go with an Odyssey 34R. It is actually smaller and lighter than the stock battery, which is nice, but offers more CCAs and RC. So its a win win for me.

That Odyssey 34R is definitely an attractive option. I was aiming for 750 CCA or more which that certainly satisfies. And the pricepoint is about what I was expecting as well. Best price I see from a quick search is $218. Have you found anything better?

I haven't even seen it that low lol. But I am also likely going to pay a few bucks more at a local store cause I need one asap haha.

If there is a batteries plus around you they carry the X2 (rebranded NorthStar battery). Its a great battery with higher CCA (930cca) and reserve capacity than the Odyssey. I got the 27F. They also have $30 off right now and an extra 10% if you buy online pick up in store.

That looks like a nice battery. A bit heavy, but a nice one. Any idea what the RC is on that battery? And does it fit the stock location with no modifications?

Drops right into the factory spot no zero modification needed to mounts or wiring. I want to say it's 195 for the RC, but I can check on my lunch when I go out to my car.

I wouldn't consider that X2 an option if it weren't for the $30 off and the 10% off. $300+ is just a little pricey for me. However, with the discounts applied I'd weigh the X2 as a possibility.

I still think the Odyssey is my front runner at this time though.

I popped for the X2 tonight. Test showed CCA at 335 or so. Batteries plus had the sale and such. I was out the door at $260ish and still have the $30 mail in.

i picked myself up an optima red top last night... advanced auto has a 30%off online coupon which saved me 50 bux. it was 177 out door with tax.

obviously i have no experience with this optima but am pleased with it starting my truck lol... it also came with alittle tray to sit on so it bolts right in to our truck with no modifications. (terminals or battery hold down)

35 lbs
720 coldcranking amps
910 amps
3 year free replacement warranty.

it was hard to shell out the extra dough... coulda got the advanced auto brand for half the price but had one from them in my SS and it was dead after 1.5 years. Im disabled and hate being stranded due to things like batteries that can be avoided. on tuesday morning my truck was dead and it was -15 with the windchill. lucky for me i was at work and had a jump box
I also plan to add some lighting very soon and wanted the extra power.

if it makes it the 3 years it will have been worth it to me and if not free replacement... seems like a win win either way to me

I have a batteries plus nearby and now I am thinking about picking one up simply because of the discount + MIR. What do you mean the CCA was at 335 or so? I don't know much about batteries.

One thing I always wondered is if the battery size made any other difference than fitting into the holder.

For example, do you get a smaller size battery with a higher CCA? Since I am in NY, I go more for the CCA.

They can run a couple of tests to see where problems are. Alternator or battery. Health of battery. Etc. mine was down to 335 cold cranking amps. Should be much higher. So on the sub 0° mornings it's too sluggish in starting and is near/at end of life. I opted to replace instead of being caught in out and about and not be able to get home. I was experiencing the single-wiper-wipe condition that seems to be a tell tale.

Ohhhhhh wait. You were saying that your stock battery was at 335CCA and you then replaced it with the X2 battery? Cause that makes more sense. Did it fit in to the factory location easily? It seems pretty heavy for a battery too...
