One thing the crawl/multi select appears to do that can't be done even by very experienced off roaders is control the braking and acceleration of each wheel independently. I find that amazing and will probably always be sad I don't have it. But, your comments as well as others here have given me confidence that I won't really be hampered much -- esp since I'm really not likely to be doing the crazy stuff.
