- I've read that you can cut the oem din brackets to work with this, but haven't done that.
- There's awkward gaps on the sides, so I'll have to get a real dash kit to fit it.
- Voice commands are hit and miss. If I use the app and then say a command, it's fine, but globally it doesnt catch the "OK google"
- Certain applications (backup cam, radio) will make music quiet, but still overlap them. (i.e. spotify and radio both playing)
- I haven't figured out what wire to connect for steering wheel controls yet, so those don't work. I had it hooked up to a metra Axxess because my Alpine stereo needed it, but not sure I need it now.
- backup camera and usb ports are sitting in the glove box for later.
- in bright sunlight the reflections are a little annoying. Could use a tiny bit brighter screen
- I was worried about the audio quality. Luckily it's not as terrible as some people say. There is less bass than my alpine, and spotify doesn't have an EQ in android for some reason, but I'm sure it can be fixed somehow.

radio is sitting too far in, need to see the other mouting screws, also need the metra side filler pieces.

Aware of all that

Side note. I left my OBD module plugged in and it caused the truck not to start. Don't leave it in.

The work in this thread is amazing...

So, my biggest disappointment with my truck is the JBL/TomTom radio. It works just ok, and the Bluetooth leaves much to be desired.

I have thought about going with a GROM adapter for the factory radio, or even replacing the entire unit.

I am looking for an improvement in my call quality using Bluetooth, and the ability to stream music, etc through the Bluetooth as well.

I am using an iPhone and would prefer to have the new unit fit in the same area as the original system.

Any recommendations?

Thanks!

The Scion FRS Mod seems to be a popular choice.

I finally got my backup camera installed last week, and wired the head unit to work with my steering wheel controls. I got a lot of use out of the head unit on my recent road trip. Everything on it worked pretty well and it was very useful. (especially the offline maps) My backup camera isn't aligned great, but it was tricky to mount it in an inconspicuous way so and difficult to change the angle, so I haven't touched it since install.

I also bought the metra dash kit, but it wasn't a perfect fit so I still have to get around to making that fit.

Thank you. I ordered one last night from EBay. If that doesn't work, I'll give the one you suggested a try.

What happens after you installed your disc? I installed mine and nothing looks different. Besides the update it did itself in the beginning.

Lazily copied from my build thread. I LOVE this thing!!! Especially how factory it looks as its an exact fit......

The only real addition I've done lately is adding in a Chinese (Joying) Android HU, JY-TQ123 ($300 PRIME shipping). I preferred this model as it exactly fits the OEM opening size (~200mmx100mm) and I HATE the look of most filler pieces i've seen that go into the universal double-din installs.

I've only recently been turned on to these but they sounded awesome from what little research i've done if you can deal with a more DIY trouble shooting side involved in little to no customer support. Having said that, I bought mine specifically from Joying-USA on Amazon and the POC there has been very response in emailed questions. Supposedly comes with a 2 year warranty and it can be shipped back to NY (way better than China like the others). But really, for $300, I'm not expecting this thing to be perfect given all the awesome features it has. It can be flashed with customer firmware, ROMS, etc. Love it so far and it looks OEM. The install was a complete plug in play as this version comes with the Toyota specific ISO hookups and the steering wheel controls work with no additional adapters. Also, no parking break tap to bypass the safety either (still don't advise watching Netflix while driving).

That looks sharp! I love that it fits without the trip piece.
