I had planned on returning this unit anyway as a test run to see if I wanted a DD unit or a single din.
Apple carplay is awesome for navigation but I dont see myself using it all that much as I text people at red lights and I get the Siri voice prompt if I open the app on my phone.
I will still stick with the DD Sony unit as I enjoy it's bluetooth background and it makes the car feel more modern.

I installed that unit in my daughter’s Camry, and she loves it. I opted for it based on the faster boot time, and at the time the AX100 wasn’t available anyway. I didn’t care that it had the front USB, but I was really bothered that they eliminated the rear one! I wanted the rear input for a remote plug in the console for a cleaner look. I still haven’t bought anything for my 4Runner yet because it came with a single DIN Pioneer that has Bluetooth, so it’s not really a priority other than having a screen for backup camera at some point. Based on the performance of the AX1000 though, it’s still on my short list, especially for the price. My real preference would be something with wireless CarPlay, but I’m not spending $600+ on a radio at this point, just to get a wireless version.

I went with the Sony XAV-AX1000, I don't have any CD's anymore, and I only really like IOS phones, so it made sense as it was a fair amount cheaper than many others. I also bought the PAC steering wheel adaptor, and the Axxess factory wiring interface, and a backup camera. Overall I'm quite happy with it, though the display could be a bit brighter in sunlight.

Which backup cam did you go with, and are you happy with it?

I went with this one Accele RVCLPMBS Universal license plate bar-style backup camera at Crutchfield Canada due to the easy mounting, I didn't want to faff about cutting new holes in the tailgate. It was difficult installing the wiring through the factory wiring pathways, but overall I'm very happy with it.

Hey all, complete new to all this and have oh so many questions.
Firstly, I'd love a head unit with;
Bluetooth Audio
Android Auto
Ability to connect to a backup camera
Ability to use the controls on the steering wheel
Does this exist? I'm looking at the Pioneer AVH2500NEX but I'm unsure about the camera & controls compatibility.
Also is installing one fairly straight forward for a novice?
Thanks!

Yes, with a 10mm socket and an extension and a philips screwdriver you are able to take off all the trim.
As for your needs do more research and see if the headunit meets your requirements.
I personally went with the Sony AXV line because it has a discreet finish and I REALLY do not like having extra lights blaring at my face at night.
I have no idea why headunits include blue LEDs but it destroys your night vision.

After a bit of research during some downtime this specific head unit does allow for Android auto but your phone will have to be hardwired in order to use the Android auto functionality. It also has a camera input for a reverse camera. As for steering wheel controls you will have to do your own research on that as it may be head unit specific. You would need to attach a separate dongle for it to work.
Again I went with the AXV-AX200 from Sony as it has a function where I could change the led colors to red as well as have 3 camera inputs. I plan on expanding to a rear camera, a front bumper cam and a camera facing back towards the rear diff.
There are head units that offer the wireless Android auto but it is way more expensive. I have a socket in the center console that allows for a charge and comes with a 4 foot USB extension that I plugged into the back of my head unit.

What items do you need to get to install one of these receivers? Is it pretty much the radio + harness off Crutchfield, or am I missing something?

At least one other person in the Amazon reviews saw the same thing. Too bad as I liked the look of the Vigo. I'll need to add a dremelled port or find another Vigo style port that has a better USB connection.
This is a brand new Alpine ilx-w650
Only when connected to CarPlay over the Vigo port does the screen look like this. On Radio mode or with the Vigo port bypassed, no issues at all.

Looks to be the same as
https://www.amazon.com/Socket-Port-A...iglink20350-20
For those wondering. Both come in the same box covered in Japanese script.
My FM reception is OK using the large standard antenna port, but without the smaller one I have zero AM reception. That kinda sucks, but the whole reason I upgraded was that I listen to podcasts 99% of the time that I want talk radio.

How do you like the Alpine?

We’re you able to get the steering wheel controls to work with the Sony XAV?

Last week installed a Pioneer MVH-1400nex. Bought from Crutchfield and got them to do the wiring with the steering wheel controls. My T4R does not have the JBL system so I got the PAC steering adapter. Crutchfield did the wiring well, just note that you may have to program the PAC unit to your liking yourself. It took my father-in-law and I about 15 minutes to figure out how to program it, but we got it done. One thing that sucks is that you need to press a button on the PAC unit to program it, so your headhunt is going to have to come out to reprogram if you want the buttons to do something different.
Since we are going to use mostly Apple Carplay on this thing I programmed the buttons like this: Vol Up, Vol Down as normal, seek buttons for track next, or track last, and mode I made a long press be the voice button so Siri comes up when I hold it down.
Also, Crutchfield does not include parking brake wiring or a bypass so I had to get one of those and wire it in so that all the menus could be accessible.
Here's what it looks like installed:
and I also bought one of these to put a usb port in the console: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Then I took an Add-a-Circuit and plugged it into the accessory spot on the fuse box to wire up the power only for the other port. Works well for now with CarPlay and power

For those of you with and aftermarket head unit and the JBL synthesis, does your fader settings work? Can you adjust the audio between front and rear? A friend of mine got a cheaper end head unit on Crutchfield with the PAC RP4.2-TY11 Wiring Interface but he said his fader settings aren’t working. I ordered a the same wiring harness but with an Alpine ILX-W650 and am worried the fader setting won’t work. Just wanting to know if anyone else has that wiring interface and has working fader settings.
