Possibly Returning

I haven't really checked out this forum in several years because my '04 succumbed to the head gasket problem. I might go check out an '06 with a ton of miles (but a decent price) this week. I believe the head gasket issues were corrected by that point, but what other potentially serious/expensive things should I check? It seems frame rust might be a concern as well.

Thanks in advance!

As you mention, frame rust if you are in an area that treats their roads. Front tow point area, bottom of frame arches and corners behind plastic bumper is the ones I've had to repair on my truck. Otherwise it's probably do for new struts & springs assuming they are original. Rear hatch and window seem to freeze up if not used all the time. Brake lines to the rear brakes corrode.

Look at the VIN sticker on the driver's door jamb, find the build date, on my 2004 the date is in the upper right corner, if 12-05 or later it will have the updated head gaskets, any date before 12-05 and it will have the old design head gasket and they could fail at some point, some 2006s will have the old designed head gaskets, the build date will tell the tale.

The head gasket issue only applies to the V6 engines, the V8s are fine.

It looks like I'm going to check out a different T4R tomorrow with a V8 and 4WD. Any tips on operating/test driving the 4WD?

The V8 is AWD so check to make sure the transfer case locks and it goes into 4 low. Look at the CV boots for tears.
