mizak82 build thread

Well I was able to get a few things done and pick up some more goodies..

1. I had the transmission flushed by the dealership.. I supplied the oil.. was going to do it my self but no garage/driveway to work on.. it was 110 for them to do it and 100 I paid for the WS ATF on ebay..

2. added the spacers and sprayed the rotors/calipers.. love the look.. i think i was 200 all in with spacers and extended lug nuts..

3. I sprayed the frame with VHT Chassis Paint (flat black) and sprayed the skid plates... Looks much better..

4. I replaced serpentine belt (got tacoma oem belt for 32 bucks) and Fan clutch (118 bucks) quoted 415 at dealership to replace just the fan clutch, they told me it wasn't shutting off..

5. purchased the ashtrey 22 bucks and then a carbon fiber shift knob.. 24 bucks.. love it..

sprayed the steps and roof rack with Duplicolor bed liner spray... and the components in a standard black trim spray paint, with a flat clear coat..

turned into a pain in the ass to be honest..

-when taking the roof rack off, prying the covers off was very simple.. the two star bolts holding it down became an issue though.. I only ****ed up one in the back, trying to untorque them, the 2 bolts have a connecting piece with two nut inside the frame (top right pic below).. so loosen them up in a pair.. i took one out and tried to un torque the other one and it snapped off the clamp, then bent the clamp and the bolt was spinning around.. had to take off a lot of interior trim to get to that piece in the back.. I bent it backed, and eventually got the last corner off the car.. lesson learned...

- painting was pretty straight forward but time consuming..

- I am wondering if I should of just used regular black paint on the tubes instead of bedliner.. the tubes naturally have a sandpaper like finish.. but we will see, this stuff has rubber in it.. I was hoping for something more durable but this they say is...

Took off the step tubes.

Much easier to get out of the car without them. Felt like I was rolling off my seat. Especially in parking lots where you can't always fully open your door.
however it makes me want the stainless steel door sills.. opening the door looking at that plastic door sill is a bit of a let down now..

Going to get the tires rebalanced. Has the weights on the outside. Once that's fixed Ill spray the wheels gunmetal.

I have not yet decide whether it will be flat. Satin. Or gloss gunmetal.

Any suggestions?

Ordered the plastidip. Went with mettalic anthercite grey.

Sprayed the center caps. Had my tires rebalanced with the weights on the inside. Hopefully I can pull the wheels over the weekend. I realize people using 1 can a tire are not really doing the whole wheel. Just the faces. These wheels are trashed so I was trying to clean them up completely. So I purchased two more cans of gunmetal to spray the back of the rims. Hoping that's enough.

Also purchased a can of chassis flat black. So when i pull the wheels I an clean up the wheel wells too.

Was told I need rear pads. So I figure I should just put news pads in when I pull the wheel.

Looks like I got a pretty good list with this little project.

Plastidippped the wheels. Kind of wish they were limited 18s. But I'm really happy how it came out. The wheels were trashed and came out looking brand new.

Lot of work being I live in a second floor condo. No power tools. Replaced the rear brake pads (akibonos) at the same time. Little grinding sound at low speeds. I didn't replace the rotors... I just recently put the spacers on, red loctite, no power tools.. I didn't want to deal with it.. but I think fresh pads and a good cleaning is an upgrade to doing nothing...

also Sprayed brake cleaner like a moron after i heard the squealing on the first drive.. Kind of went away. But ate into the paint on the inside rim. Had to touch up. So took me all of 5 mins to **** up a wheel. Lol.

got some new mats.. I think I dropped the ball on the carpet mats.. just too tough to keep clean.. but now I have carpet in the rear and the rubbers in the front..

sprayed the frame and accessories.. muffler is looking like poop.. like to replace it one day with a flow master or something.. black ideally..

and some before and after pics of the wheels.. they were poop.. but came out great.. Apologize for the nexens.. they were on the runner when i bought it and they still have life..

truck looks great. Interesting how similar it is to mine. I got a silver 2006 2WD Sport bought it with 79.5k miles in Orlando. Same wheels and everything. Gotta do a bit of the maintenance you've done. The wheels look good plastidipped too.

Quick update..

- I did the rear diff breather mod.. cost was all of 30 bucks in parts.. came out well.. little hiccup.. I recommend if anyone does it, to feed the hose down from the gas cap spot to start, instead of running it up at the end...

I live in florida the rainy season is starting, so I figured if any off road/on road mod for me to do would be this.. In case of flooding

- I sprayed the mud flaps satin black.. kept putting on tire shine but they were so faded it wouldn't last... Now I don have to worry about them..

- wrapped interior door handles carbon fiber 4d to match the center console. Best 7 bucks I ever spent.

- A reverse sensor unit was installed before I purchased the vehicle. The sensor were black and in the bumper. Kind of smoking being that I debadged the whole car and I like a clean look. So I got some factory match silver paint. Sprayed and cleared.

- I did the VSC OFF mod with OEM switch modded to constant on when its pushed in.. Seemed to be unanimous that this was an important thing to do, and really the only difference to the 08/09 4runners.. So i wanted that option.. and for about 50 bucks it was worth it, even if I never use it..

-took the wheel off and re greased the brake pads and sprayed the calipers with brake cleaner.. Really quieted it down..

- I ordered a set of stainless steel door sills!!! pretty excited.. one of the features of the Lexus RX300 that i miss.. I think the plastic stock sills look very cheap..

still getting shitty gas mileage for a V6.. 16.5 per gallon last fill up.. I feel like I'm getting robbed 2 mpg, but people on the site seem to think that is normal.. idk
