Steering Spacer - Body Lift

#$&#%#&@%@&#&@%#$

I'm pretty sure that I would pay $500 to someone to install my steering spacer.

I've been at it for like 2 hours and haven't gotten anywhere. In hindsight, I wish I tried to do it while the left side was jacked up. I guess that is the answer, I just don't want to take everything apart again and loosen all the body bolts.

Damn damn damn
That's all.

I have my body lift waiting to install, and I heard it was probably the most difficult part.

Once you're done, tell us the trick to get that bad boy in...

Unbolt the joint under the dash, if you're still having issues installing the puck, unblt the column from the dash.

I tried unbolting the rag joint from the column and did not get anywhere. Next plan was to look at some schematics to see how it attaches to the steering wheel and try that. Otherwise, I was going to loosen all the body bolts again and jack up the left side again.

I'll post back with what works. Again, if I was doing this one more time, I would have installed it while jacking up the left side to put the spacers in at the body mounts.

Undo the rag joint, make sure the wheels are straight ahead when you do this. Then unbolt the lower kick panel and plate. Remove the column cover (the plastic part around the column. Then use a 14mm socket to undo the bolts that secure the column assembly to the dash, once it's loose be careful not to turn the steering wheel to much (or you'll break the spiral cable); then move the column out enough to pop the spacer in and then put it all back together again.

Thanks BlackWorks. So, I went back out and looked at the steering column. Once you've disconnected the rag joint, if you follow the shaft towards the steering wheel, you will see a c-clip around the shaft. If you pop that sucker off, the steering column will slide in towards the steering wheel and allow enough space to easily put the spacer on. Onve you have bolted it all back together, the c-clip should be able to snap back into the groove. Took 15 mins.

This sounds like the way to go. Thanks for the info!

How bad is it if I was unable to get the c clip back on? After installing the spacer and tightening down the 2 bolts, I couldn't see the groove the clip goes back into. It was late and dark, so i just tightened the 2 bolts by the wheel well and drove home.

Everything was fine, except now i have this like rubbing/grinding noise. It only happens when i'm driving, but i can't see the tires rubbing on anything. Its definitely coming from the front. A clip of the noise is below,

Body Lift Noise

Appreciate any help!
