V8 thermostat replacement?

Hey guys,

A buddy and I are going to replace the thermostat on his 07 Limited V8 4runner. I cannot find torque specs for the three bolts on the thermostat housing? I will assume it's only an O-ring being used to seal the housing?

Should I drain out a quart of coolant from the radiator beforehand?

Shoot me some advice if I am missing some information for replacing the thermostat, thanks!

Haven't done it on the 4runner yet, but did it on my explorer. Not much help for the torque question. I would certainly drain out a little bit of the coolant when doing that. Much easier to drain it down some, especially before removing the thermostat, otherwise you'll spray coolant all over the place.

For the o-ring, make sure you scrap and clean off that connection point from the old o-ring as best you can. It took a flathead screwdriver to make sure both the thermostat and engine block were cleaned off. Replace the o-ring (make sure it's the right one) so you have a new, clean connection.

Not sure if that helps, but those were a few things I learned on my old car. Good luck!

Thanks for the reply, I was hoping there is no air bleeding procedure or a need to drain 3 qt.s to make the loss of coolant minimal from the t-housing.

Where did you find your instructions for replacing the thermostat on your V8?
