Good news and Bad News about the "MIST" feature on the Wipers

I finally got around to trying to retrofit a wiper switch from another Toyota. the one I got was out of a 06-07 Highlander. the wiper switch is very slightly different in size. even the wiper stalk is exactly the same.

BAD NEWS: after taking my 4runner column apart I found that it will not bolt up as most Toyotas have separate switches from the housing, the 4runners have the switches built into a bolt on bracket. they unbolt from the bracket.

GOOD NEWS: after plugging in the highlander switch the "mist" feature worked along with everything else: delay, rear wiper, washers, low and high. I tried to possibly switch out the guts of the 4runner to the highlander switch and it will not work.

im still determined to make this work somehow. I have no pics as I was loosing sunlight.

I will keep all updated.

Interesting mod

Well at least we know it will work. Without seeing it, i would think the best way to proceed is to find a way to get the innards of the new switch over to the original. When I had my surfs, the switches were reversed (right hand driving) and a pain to get used to. So what I used to do is purchase a 4Runner control staulks, take it with me to South America, talk with the "auto boutique's" tech. Interestingly, the staulks from a Surf and 4Runner are NOT the same (wiring is different), but the tech got them to work. Anyway, I have faith in ya! Keep digging! LOL

I did do some more digging this morning. believe it or not the 4runner w/o delay wipers has the "mist" feature. I have looked at all Toyota wiper switches available. very few had the wiper switch that bolts to the bracket. most of them clip onto the metal column and are held tight by the two column covers. there are a lot of switches that have what I am looking for but the wrong housing. most of the switches interchange from all the way back to 1997. even the sequoia and land cruiser have no mist.

the only promising one looks to be a 1997-2000 camry wagon but that's not confirmed yet.

I even looked at lexus models and nothing there either.

I will not quit!!!!

I used to have a Lexus IS300 SportCross (wagon) which had interval and mist function. Might be an option.

There was a whole thread on this topic like 8 years ago where people were making progress on this retrofit. Somehow out of nowhere the thread vanished and never got revived. It's such a small feature that I would like to have (along with a fan spray of the washer jets, not streams...).
