2004 4Runner Nav DVD - Where Located?

I received a gift of the ver.05.1 DVD for the factory installed Nav System installed in the Limited.

The DVD came with no instructions. Can anyone tell me where I can find information on specifically where the DVD player is located and any tips on doing the update?

Thanks much.

John

Press the 'Open' button on the bottom of your nav. Do you have a cassette or two (disc) slots for the nav? If you have a cassette deck, then your nav ECU is located in the cargo area. You will have to remove the passenger side cargo area panel to get access to the ECU. If you have two slots (and your nav is like my Camry's) the bottom slot with the eject button is for the map DVD. I don't know what upgrade process is involved other than swapping discs, but I had my Camry's DVD replaced during a service campaign by Toyota. The dealer did hold onto the car for about an hour.

You can try TIS, but you will need have a subscriptioin.

Thanks for the info!

I have the casette player so I tried to get the passenger side cargo panel off without any luck. I tried prying it off but there is some sort of fastening method that thwarted all my attempts to get it off without destroying the panel.

I also did a one-day subscription at techinfo.toyota.com but could find nothing that addressed the removal of that panel.

Looks like I need to visit the dealer....

Thanks again.
