Exclamation NO SPEEDO! Pulled P0500 Code...HELP!

So last night, some asshat decided to slam on his brakes on the freeway right in front of me. I slammed on my brakes, started to skid, truck got a little sideways, but ended up ok (no crash, just an angry horn and a middle finger from me to "DJ Brakes-a-lot").

Then, about a minute later, I realized my speedo stopped working. I stopped, turned the engine off, started her back up. Check engine light came on and threw a P0500. Still speedo isn't working.

NO SPEEDO! Pulled P0500 Code...HELP!-speedo-p0500-jpg

I did some searching on here, and most of the results was that it started working randomly again. One was fixed with a "Dakota Digital."

I have the "Universal Speedhealer" waiting to be installed once my 35s arrive. Would installing this fix my issue?

Open for any help of feedback. Thanks!

What did you use to pull up the code? Try removing negative terminal from the battery for an hour or two and see if that helps.

@ArthurHawk I use a BlueDriver scan tool.

Disconnected the battery for 1.5 hours, hooked it back up and still no speedo.

Anyone else have any ideas? I really don't want to take it to Toyota.

maybe it just a blown fuse, check the dome fuse or dimmer too.

Thanks @riceandpho My dome and dimmer still work, so I am not sure that it would be a blown fuse. The code that pulled referenced a sensor. Is there a fuse that is associated with this sensor?

Does anyone know where this sensor is located?

Thanks again all!

Check the VSS wire from the Skid Control ECU to the the combination meter.

Vehicle speed is collected via the wheel speed sensors, smoothed and converted into a single square wave, which is then output to the combination meter for the speedometer and then relayed to the ECM. I'm guessing the issue is between the skid control ECU and CM since the speedometer isn't registering.

Thanks @BlackWorksInc ...now a stupid question, where would I locate the VSS wire from the Skid Control ECU to the combination Meter?

Update!

So I just did a Zero Point Calibration of Yaw Rate (using paperclips) .

Here is what it did do:
Speedo is now working
Check Engine Light is off

Here is what it did not do:
Turn off my VSC on/off dash lights

I am hoping this is the final fix to my speedo issue, but will report back after a 100+ miles.

@SSt4r pulled my code(s) again and came up with a clean slate.

I still have the annoying Christmas tree dash. I know I need to do another brake bleeding to clear my "BRAKE!" (and possibly the ABS) dash light, but why wouldn't my VSC on/off lights not clear?

Your scantool doesn't do non-OBDII DTCs I am guessing. You should see a multitude of "C" codes stored if those lights are on.

I do @BlackWorksInc , a whole host of them

C1246 - This one I should be able to fix with a brake bleeding.
NO SPEEDO! Pulled P0500 Code...HELP!-c1246-jpg

C1223 - I hope this goes away with the brake bleeding as well
NO SPEEDO! Pulled P0500 Code...HELP!-c1223-jpg

C0210 & C0205 - I may have damaged the wiring or sensors during my lift and or brake/rotor replacement. Any ideas on a quick fix? or do I need to replace wiring/sensors?

I had the p0500 code vehicle speed sensor on my 1996 4runner sr5 v6 automatic
Changed the vehicle speed sensor $20 - didn't help
Changed the combo meter /instrument cluster/ gauge cluster with one off eBay $60 - fixed it .

I made sure the new combo meter part number matched my old one also. Not sure if it matters because I noticed some meters in eBay looked exactly the same but had different part numbers .
Only my speedometer and odometer didn't work. And only check engine light was on unlike other members that had abs and other lights on
Hope that helps anyone with same issue .
