Front Grill piece broken, Toyota said they no longer sell color matched grill

So i was washing our 4Runner the other day and noticed the middle chrome piece was kinda lose on both sides. Come to find the plastic clips are broken on both sides.

I have always hated the chrome grill so figured I just get the one for the limited with the color matched grill. Stopped by the local Toyota dealership and they said they only sell it a unpainted black grill now.

Is this correct? Our local dealerships aren't the brightest little light bulbs usually so figure I confirm.

Any place to buy a white oem grill (before i buy one from the dealership and then have to take it to someone to have it painted)?

Thanks in advance

What year is your 4Runner? I got my 06-09 paint matched grill from here https://parts.camelbacktoyota.com/pa...oyotaparts.com 2 months ago. It's free shipping over $150 and you get 5% off if you use this coupon code "TWpartz". It came out to like $190 shipped, it's a little pricey but you can't beat oem quality paint.

Mine is a 2006 Sport edition

Actually that isn't a bad price considering my local dealership wanted about $235 for the unpainted black one. I'm going to check out the link.

I actually went to your link and searched for a white grill for a 2006 limited (since the limited came with the color matched grill). Total with the coupon is only $169.00?

You know what, now that I think of it I got other items as well like misc clips that were missing and a couple oil filters. That's prolly why mine was more, I just remember the total haha.

Most of the larger body and exterior trim pieces are sold unpainted. Even something like mirror covers are often unpainted (some can be ordered color matched), it's just easier for the manufacturers that way.

I actually purchased a side mirror a number of years back from the dealership and it came painted white to my surprise. Also search on the forum and saw that a number of members had purchased their grilles from the dealership already painted. So figured i check (glad i did) before ordering from our local dealership.

Being in a small town (Bakersfield, CA) we only have one Toyota dealership. I have noticed the parts department guys here haven't always known their stuff so I also like to verify .

Just a week ago our local Lexus dealership tried to charge me an extra $200 for the same parts that I ended up getting at another Lexus dealership for my ISF. Small towns suck when parts are needed (we only have like one of each kind of dealership here so they pretty much charge whatever they want).

ok mini rant over. lol

I'm in a larger town with several dealers. My parts department quoted my almost $500 for an interior trim panel. I started laughing and he dropped his price by over $100.

I broke my gas release lever, local dealer wanted ~$60, available online from other dealers for ~$30

Unless you have a problem ordering parts online, you can generally beat your local dealership in price. It's also very easy to use the online Toyota catalog to find the correct part numbers.

Of course, if warranty is an issue, then it's better to buy from your local dealership.

However, one of the dealership here in Tucson does MSRP + whatever markup they think they can get away with. The other charges MSRP.

Bought quite a few parts online and have saved a bundle w/o having to do a return or warranty.

I too have ordered and received a color matched grill just a few months ago. It has to be the best deal on a part ever. It comes with everything except the V8 emblem.

I will say that this "OEM" paint on the new grill is very thin at the spot the original paint was starting to fail. But HEY now I have TWO !

That POS piece of chrome grille trim broke loose on mine a while back as well. Rattled like crazy and was annoying as hell. On the chrome grilles, that center part is a separate piece that is held in place on the main grille assembly with screws that thread into tabs on the back side of it. Where those tabs attach to the center part the plastic is literally PAPER thin. Not surprising at all that it broke the same way OP's is.

Bought a new grille assembly in unfinished black. That same center piece is molded into place on the new grille assembly. Solid, no weak ass places for it to break. Painted the entire thing in automotive trim black. New grilles will typically not come with the V8 badging which clips in on the lower driver's side, and also will typically not come with the Toyota logo. That is a separate plastic piece that snaps in.

If you do end up buying the color matched I'll buy your old chrome grill off you.
