Rear Bumper Update?
So the Armor thread is a bit dated as some of the websites no longer exist and/or the rear bumper offerings are not showing up (Relentless doesn't even show a picture, they just state they will only do local Bumpers).
Anyone have any newcomers/offerings they've heard of seen recently? I am getting closer to wanting to put down for a rear bumper, but CBI is still ridiculously over-priced and I'm not entirely enthralled by their rear bumper offerings.
I know there was a member who was making one years ago, but I forget his name.
I'd love to just make my own, but I lack the time, space, and equipment to really do it right at this point in time.

I remember seeing pics of one that Demello Off Road made. I think it was a one off or two off. There was some chatter about
@ pelfreybilt
getting one put together, but with how they've been pretty busy lately, I doubt we would see one from them in the near future. Another one to check out is Insain Fab out of Colorado.

You might try SOS: http://sosoffroadconcepts.com/
I have talked with him about doing the rear before, and there is a guy on here that he has done a rear for.
HHIRunner has the only one I know of, but I think they will make one for you

Mobtown Offroad was working on one, but the 4th gen he was using to design it got sold before he could finish. It was shaping up to be a good CBI contender too.

I've been talking to Mobtown Offroad for a couple of months now. When they are back on the project I'll be lending them my 4Runner for it. Waiting patiently. Apparently they are fairly busy with the Taco bumpers right now.

Sweet! I know they just finished up their 3rd gen bumpers too. Have you seen what they have done so far for the 4th gen one? It's looking mighty sweet.

Yes I have... looks great so far. A little bulky but getting there. I'll be allowing them to cut up my bumper if necessary.

I'm hoping they come up with a non cut solution. Personally I'm not a fan and I'd rather not hack up a perfectly good bumper that I can sell or help someone out that needs a new (used) bumper.

If the design is nice and the price is right I might actually be more than happy to put an order down for one in black. Please make a thread or update this one with the progress!
Something I would recommend if they are going to make it non-cut is to utilize that space and perhaps make a "Stepped" cut-out in that small fender section like you see on Xterras, it'd be a great way to use that flat space and to provide built in utility for the bumper. Additionally they may want to look into the possibility of making a "dual option tow hitch" where it can be ordered with the hitch traditionally mounted below the frame crossmember or for those that want to notch and reinforce their crossmember a through cut design.
I've also mused about trying to incorporate a rounded edge for the door opening so it seems like it meshes with the vehicle body better than the typical angled cuts. Sorry, I'm rambling now... like I said I've given a lot of thought to making one, I just don't have the tools, space, and time to do it right now. Though I may look at a quote from a local fab shop or two. LoL

this has been the hardest thing to get used to after switching from a jeep to a 4runner. when I had my grand cherokee almost everybody made rear bumpers with tire carriers for reasonable prices. now that I have the 4runner, I need to spend an arm and a leg to get one. I'm looking at almost $3,500 for front and rear heavy duty bumpers!!! i don't even want to begin thinking about sliders and skid guards....

Sent Mobtown an email through their site asking about rear bumpers. Given how hard it is to carry a spare over 32", I'm surprised there's not more options out there. I wouldn't mind cutting up the rear bumper for something that looked good. I hate how the CBI rear bumper covers half the side of the truck in plate steel for no good reason.

Even something like this one from Slee (on an LC200) would look better, IMO. Similar bumper style, but no one makes one. Yet.

The 4th gen is the one that seems to get the least love in aftermarket armour and such at the moment. Even the 5th gen seems to be getting more love.
