factory front skid plate question

I'm going out on the sand next month and I see there are 2 vents in the OEM skid plate that could possibly scoop up sand. Question is, can I block off those vents temporarily while I'm on the beach or would it cause an over heating on something. In other words, what are those vents in the skid plate for?

I agree, however I always tried to give the factory engineers credit for how they design things. Those vents have got to be there for a reason. I'll be on the beach in Hatteras and sometimes the ruts get a little deep and you can't help rubbing the bottom down the middle. A good layer of duct tape is probably the way to go.

I had mine on the 4WD beach at Carova 3 times.

You will definitely scoop up sand, and your skid plates will rust further as a result. I had to hose them down after each trip, and there was a large pile of sand that washed off.

The vents are on the V8's only.
