AC suddenly quit working

Worked yesterday. Doesn't work today. I don't think it needs charged. It seems like the compressor isn't even turning on. I can't hear or feel the compressor engage and the air stays ambient temperature.

What should I be looking at to check? I doubt I could even point to the compressor if I looked under the hood.

Broken relay? Open up the fuse box. I think there's an identical one that you can swap with to troubleshoot.

Why do you think it's not leaked it's refrigerant out? Did you depress valve needle and get an eyeful? Seriously, if you are low on refrigerant the AC clutch won't engage. Like stated above check the fuse. And if it's ok, you might want to check for current to the unit. Is the light in the switch on?

Swap the AC Clutch relay with a similar one (I believe the Foglamp Relay is the same style) and see if the AC works, if it does you need a new AC Clutch Relay, the factory ones are expensive, but so far the Napa one my friend got for his Matrix is holding up well.

OP - you don't mention whether or not the A/C indicator is flashing or not.

http://www.toyota-4runner.org/proble...-flashing.html

I'm with @BlackWorksInc on a check of the magnetic clutch relay as a possible cause of your A/C not functioning.

Toyota issued a Technical Service Bulletin for this relay.

The AC light isn't flashing. It's on solid.

Well I tried swapping the relays with no success. I guess I'll have to take it to a shop.

Dis you find out what the problem was? Mine was working great then the next week, after not even driving it, the compressor never powers on. No noise or nothing.

I had to replace my AC compressor in my 2005 SR5 at 12 years old. It wouldn't hold refrigerant
and mechanic checked with dye.

AC compressors are $200 (Denso) and my replacement DENSO has been good for two years. Only professional AC people/shop with the right equipment to evac system, etc.
They charged me $200 to replace with refrigerant/charge.

Amazon.com: Denso 471-1413 New Compressor with Clutch: Automotive

DENSO IS THE OE SUPPLIER FOR THIS VEHICLE, w/NEW COMPRESSOR, OE-SPECIFIED O-RINGS AND OIL INCLUDED
