Power Steering Lower Return Hose Leak
Hi All,
Hope someone has done this, couldn't find any hits with search.
PS return started leaking. it appears that the hard line is rusted/corroded under the finish. Its bubbled up and only leaks when running right at the bend.
My question.
Is this the right part? 44406-35021
Lower Return Hose - Toyota (44406-35021)
Lower Return Hose | Genuine Toyota | 44406-35021
It does not look exactly like whats on the truck.
Seems to be an extra U bend on the pic.
Anyone done this fix?
Part is about $100 so dont want to get wrong one
Thanks
Dave

Here's what I found out in case anyone else has this issue.
The part I posted is NOT the right one.
The lower hose I needed is in yellow below.
But since it has a bracket (red arrow)to the pressure line, its sold as one piece for $270.
You can buy the clamps and screws, but not the return tube.
PN 44410-35691
No way to get it by itself. You could make the hard line but I didnt have the time to deal with it.
Bought the whole thing and just used the part in yellow.
would be a PIA to mess with the rest.

The same exact thing happened to me last week!
I found the part number for just the return line...Sunsong 3402985
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Its the only company I found that sold just the return line.
I did a temporary fix until the part arrives:
I removed the hardline
Cut out the bad section with a hacksaw(flushed hardline to remove metal shavings)
Put a piece of rubber fuel line I had in my garage in its place
then secured rubber line with screw type hose clamps
then reinstalled
There is also this part: SUNSONG 3401237, at rock auto, its the high and low pressure hoses for $84.79

Yeah, I blame Hurricane Matthew
I wish I could have got the Amazon part.
Looks like its not shipping now. Not sure I would have waited anyway.

For anyone who has done this replacement - what is the best way to access this - by removing the skid plate and going underneath or from on top of the engine bay and trying to move engine components out of the way?

I installed the return line from the Sunsong kit from Rockauto about 18 months ago. It’s working well so far.
I installed it from the bottom but that was with the truck on a hoist. The bolt on the passenger side frame had to be torched to get it off. Pretty straightforward otherwise.
If your supply line is in good shape I would just leave it alone, mine had no signs of corrosion so I left it there.
I did temp fix buy using a piece of 3/8” high temp silicone tubing, sliced it along its length, wrapped it over the leak area, and used screw clamps to keep it tight. It stopped the leak completely and drove it for 2 weeks like that.

I just did the rack and pinion and all lines with a new reservoir, overkill maybe but you should have seen what I had to put in it to get it 300 miles back home! Rack and pinion was from flea bay (we will see how long that lasts) and the hoses were from rock auto. The only part I couldn’t find was the “cooler” line which is just a piece of straight tubing running along the front frame rail. Oddly similar to a piece of 3/8” stainless steel tubing....
I took off the front bumper and skids to do the work. Not a difficult job, just have patience.

Thanks- I may try some silicone tubing and tape and see how long it lasts for so I don’t have to fight with rusted/ stripped bolts

I just bought a break line the same length for like $3 and bent it to fit. I’ve had it that way for 5 years with no issues!

Hey OP could you kindly repost your main image? you are the first link on google and i think it would be a good reference to everyone.
I too have a power steering leak,
Could the community help me confirm this is the lower return hose ? PN 44406-35021
this picture is from the right side where the oil filler is

check rockauto, i purchased one for 30 or less, wanted to use the rubber hose, decided to order some 3/8 hose too, used that instead of the whole hose and pipe, also used new hose clamp.
your picture looks like its missing the hose clamp.
