Faulty Rear Window Defroster

With the first sub-freeze temps of the season, I noticed that four of the elements in the middle of the rear window aren't functioning. Am I correct that that the fix is simply a new rear window?

I would personally be nervous about using the rear defroster. Although I have used it in the past after reading the multiple horror stories of peoples back windows blowing out due to poor contacts in the rear window, I haven't used it as much anymore.
But yes is this is something you would like to use and the full window is heating/defrosting the only way around that fix would be a new rear window. Hope it helps.

Thanks. I suppose one option would be to just use it until it busts out...just kidding, but I'm a little skeptical that will happen.

I mean I welcome your skepticism, but if you take into account truly how small this forum is for just 4runners, and how many times it has occurred or been reports, its kind of messed up.

BOOM! Rear window exploded this morning

Rear Windshield Shattered this morning

But I understand it gets pretty cold here and sometimes you just need some direct heat to melt it all

Well, since a few of the strands are out of order, maybe that will decrease the chance of a glass blow out. I've always used the defroster a lot in prior vehicles and definitely don't want to stop now.
