Grinding going from 2wd to 4wd hi

Was looking at a couple of threads. But they are all old and it's going from 4wd hi to low. Today I was driving and switch to 4wd hi. 4wd Lights where blinking thinking it was going to take a little to kick in because it was cold outside. Then all of a sudden I heard a grinding sound. Like I was driving a stick shift and forcing the stick sift into gear.So I switch it back to 2wd as fast as I can. Got to a stop light switch it back to 4wd hi and no problems. So does this happen often? New oil in the trans case and been switching to 4wd hi and low every couple of weeks. Only had the truck for about a month or more.

Mine did this once ... Now I make it a habit to keep my foot off the gas while switching to 4hi. Never has grinded again

I read on this forum to switch at about 20mph with wheels straight and off the gas. That always works well for me. I put it back into 2wd the same way. Usually there is no sign either way - never grinding and rarely a little bump.

Been at 55 mph let off the gas and switch to 4wd hi with no grinding or bump at all. Compair to having the foot on the gas.
