Wheel sizing: Need help asap!

Hey, so I'm looking to buy

18" rims : fuel assault 18x9

And I also want to get: nitto trail grapplers AS BIG AS I CAN GET, that will fit on my 4th Gen 4Runner

Right now, I have stock lift and suspension and I have a 3" spacer in the front.

So my question is, what is the biggest tire size I can fit on my 2008 v8 4x4 sport 4Runner using the 18x9 rims I wanted. In the future I also am planning on getting a lift kit of a good 2-3" front and back.

Please help! I know there are many threads on this topic, but after years of pondering which rims and tires I want, I just need help sizing now!

Please share your knowledge and reply!

Here's the pics:

How important is turning ability? You can definitely fit 33s, though you'll have a bit of rubbing. You can squeeze in 35s with a lot of rubbing as long as you don't need to make any u-turns.

There's a good write up over at the yotatech forum. I used it when I got my tires. I've got 3" OME with General Grabber AT2 265/70r17 (31.6") + 1.25" spacers. I had to push the front skirt trim up a little bit due to rubbing, but IMO I think it looks great.

"As big as you can fit" depends on what mods you are willing to do, or how much you want to trim inside your fenders or cut your body mount. Even with 33's, which are considered easy to fit by most, require trimming and a body mount chop.

I think the 265 17's look great. That's what I got. 265's and a little lift.

Do you mind me asking what you use your truck for?

Is this a road truck / daily driver, off-road trail, desert...

Just my opinion but I saw a pretty big degrade in overall city and freeway driving and handling after I threw some big MTs on the truck.

It was definitely a compromise... you can really feel that un-sprung weight of the bigger wheel and tire. On-road performance became weighted and a bit more sloppy.

If you don't off-road the truck, those are a bunch of cons for literally zero pros except for aesthetics which in this case can very well be subjective as well.

Even if you choose to ignore what I just said and still want a really aggressive looking tire, perhaps scale back the size a little to something under a 33", like a 32.2" which would solve pretty much every issue when it comes to making clearance to fit larger.

But if it is a road truck... Michelin LTX M/S2... probably not as pretty as you wanted, but its about the best damn road tire I have ever used. Even on a gravel road / fire road, it was some of the best driving I have done in that truck because that tire is light and plush. Compared to my LT AT it feels like you have more suspension than you actually do.

Edit: LTX MS2 is discontinued, look at the Defender.

Well, it's for inroad city use only. I don't plan on making any changes or trimming the fender wells right now. In the future I might get a much bigger lift kit, and possibly replacing the front bumper. But from what I understood, I can possibly fit a 33" with hour any modifications?

I just saw this tire in parking lot. It looks pretty cool. What are your guys thoughts on these tires?

Why would you say to stay away from the fake bead clamps? Is it a quality issue? I get they aren't functional but IMHO they look nice. Just curious.

I think you hit the nail on the head. They just look "nice" but everybody knows that they are fake. It makes it look more like a mall crawler than an actual utilitarian vehicle. If you like it and don't mind the fact that its fake ( and everyone knows it), then go for it. Im just not into it

My truck must be a "mall crawler" then. I think the fake beadlocks help protect the edge of the wheel from denting in and protects the spokes from rocks. They do collect water after washing though. That's kinda annoying.

If you don't want to trim much get bfg at ko . You do have to adjust the fender wells but that is all

Do they protect any more than other model from SCS? It does look slightly wider than mine (Stealth6), but I don't see how it protects it any more. Any links/knowledge on that topic would be much appreciated.

I was just thinking a wheel with a thinner edge, like the FN Six Shooter, would be more prone to scraping or denting the lip and would protect the tire less than a rim with a large lip that you get with the fake beadlock style. Not that I've heard of this happening, just something to consider. I know that with a wheel like the six shooter, I would have shredded the spokes on a rock long ago like my brother's factory FJ wheels. My SCS spokes are perfectly fine because the fake beadlock has saved them. I suppose this only really matters to those that trash their truck in the rocks.
