Not necessarily. Too loose would mean it has room to move around. Too tight, it wouldn't really budge so shouldn't make noise.
It's not normal for rubber to make any noise to be honest. Be sure to check the top and bottom mounts that they're properly tight.
#1 problem with rear shock installation is if the centering washer isn't in place right and the top nut isn't tightened down properly, then with enough flexing, the stud of the shock manages to touch the mount on the frame, metal on metal.

I put the top bolt on tight so there shouldn’t be any movement. I noticed the noise this morning when I would go through some bumps in the road. It’s not a loud squeaking noise but definitely coming from that area. Could it be from the shock itself or rear coil then? I’ve ruled out the shock bushings.

Yes, it could be the shock (possibly damanged) or the coil (not seated right, excessive movement). You'd have to take the shock off to isolate if it's that.
It's possible for coils to get junk trapped on the lower spring set below the coil, causing metal on metal contact. That might be something to check out, depending where you live and what sort of stuff you've been driving thru.

Hey Mike,
I am currently running c59-350 springs with GS59-220 struts. I have a steel front bumper with winch on my 2008 v8 4wd. I am going to be moving back to a factory front bumper with a low pro bumper and winch which should drop my front end weight a bit. Sitting next to other 4Runners with 3" lifts I feel mine currently sits a tad lower than others at 3" but at the same time feel the 350s are quite stiff. I am looking at going to the 314 or 302 when I move to the lighter set up. Can you give me some advice or input on which spring you would go with?
Im also running JBA UCA.

Hey Guys
For the month of February 2020, Dobinsons is running a free Air Compressor deal with a full suspension kit purchase. Here are the details.
Purchase a full Dobinsons suspension with twin tube struts and shocks, and receive an AC80-3808 Air Compressor free with your order. $145 value
Dobinsons 4x4 Portable 12V High Output Air Compressor Kit with Bag, Hose and Gauge (AC80-3808) | Exit Offroad
Purchase a full Dobinsons suspension with new Monotube (resi or non-resi IMS) struts and shocks, and receive an AC80-3846 Dobinsons Zenith Air Compressor. $325 value
Dobinsons 4x4 Zenith Portable 12V High Output Air Compressor Kit with Bag, Hose and Gauge (AC80-3846) | Exit Offroad
The free item will automatically be added to your order, no coupons or anything required.
Regarding the IMS (non-resi) and MRA (3-way adjustabl w/resi), ETA's are variable on those products, so your order won't ship right away, but you'll still get the deal. You will be emailed an ETA when the order is placed, or can ask up front.

Hey man,
Sorry, I didn't see the notification on this post.
I'd suggest you wait and see how it rides when you change the weight as it might not be too bad.
If you do want to change, I'd recommend the C59-302 to maintain a solid 3" of lift.
I've had V8 guys before though run the stronger coils (C59-350 and 352) and like the way it rides, so it comes down to personal taste really.

After listening to the noise a few times, it does sound like metal to metal high pitched squeaking. Going to do some maintenance this weekend so I’ll take a closer look on the lift. Just to make sure, is the rear shock installed correctly?

Bushing don't look compressed enough. It should meet the outer edge of the washer. If I had to guess. The stud of the shock is touching the metal mount

Thanks for the input! I’ll tighten them up more.

I'd suggest you take them off and lower the shock to inspect the shaft. It would be shiny metal if it was metal on metal contact. Then you can make sure the centering washer (with the lip) is facing upwards in the mount properly, then tighten it down.

Got it tightened up and the noise is gone! I was checking the rear shock lower mounts and noticed that the paint chipped off and saw some possible rust. Is that type of wear normal?

Just updated the full kit pages to allow the option to select twin tube, IMS (Internal reservoir Monotube Shocks/Struts, no external resi), or MRA (3-way adjustable w/external resi) in the drop down menus. Not long now until these new struts and shocks start to arrive!!

I'm probably gonna sound clueless, but just to be safe, in my box for my rear shocks for my 2007 4runner (GS59-705), I received two bags, each with a set of 2 bushings and washers marked, "for Toyota Fortuner." Just wanted to check and see if these are in fact to be put to use on my 4runner, or if they're only used on that other vehicle. All the top bushings and washers are already attached on the shock. I've attached a picture if that helps. Thanks!!

It's a good question. You will just use the bushings on the shocks. Match the bushing orientation to the way the original shocks are removed.
The Fortuner ones are for the Toyota Fortuner, a different smaller SUV sold overseas that uses different size bushings and washers.

Mr. Eeks, I like your suspension! I couldn't find your signature with the kind of 4runner you have. Is it a V6 or V8 ? I would like this same look but have a V8. How does it ride for you? How do you use this ride?
What ended up being the total lift front/back ? Thanks.
