I just noticed this is a resurrected old thread, but I’m glad it was because I never saw this! Very cool mod!

I still check in from time to time (just don't always sign in) and I still enjoy
my tailgate literally every single day that I use my 4runner, and it gets lots
of use by others when I'm at any kind of meet. We just couldn't figure out
a way to make this into a product that would work at the price point
people want it it be at. One big challenge is that the aluminum sliding
support needs to be both strong and a precision fit (otherwise it'll stick
when it slides) so it's all welded together as one piece, rather than
bolted together, which makes shipping a challenge. There's just no easy
way to turn it into a kit.

Don't really have a write up or anything and just kind of made it up as I went. Do have pictures though, which pretty much tells the story....

^ Thank you for sharing those pictures. I really like that pull out "table." Gives me some ideas for a similar project.

Very nice. One of the reasons I almost bought a Land Cruiser, before I decided to go with a 4runner, was because of the proper tailgate.

Considering that the price is right!
I'd buy one too.
Or if you have build specs and parts needed.
I'd also love to build
