PT546-00160 - 2016+ Scion Head Unit

Hey all,

Wanted to make an easy to find thread since the Scion FRS Radio thread is 25+ pages deep. I started with the Scion radio's in my 07 back in 2014 and when the above thread was 2-3 or so pages long with the 2013 FRS BeSPoke Radio.

It was great, touch screen, backup, bluetooth. Now that I got my second 4runner, I wanted the same OEM-ish look but was looking for a newer one, and I came across this gem.

PT546-00160. They're out of the 2016+ Scion line up. Mine came out of a Scion iM.

I'm still waiting on my backup camera and USB cable (for AHA Features) to arrive, but I couldn't wait another week to install lit, so I got after it last night.

Take off your OEM Brackets, and mount on new unit.

Apply your Harnesses, Both Antenna's and Mic in their appropriate slots

Mounted mine right under the cluster. Clear clarity and not noticed unless someone looks for it specifically.

Put all the trim pieces back in place and Walla!

Bluetooth & Phone works great! Now I just have to install the backup camera and the USB extension when it comes in. - I'll update the thread when I do get it in.

Entire Parts List
Shout-out to @Nateyaro on helping w/ the parts list.

The top portion is what you absolutely need. Bottom are the extra's. The head units go from $150-250 depending on condition. They'll send you pictures if not uploaded before you make the purchase. Good Luck!

Any word on if this will work with JBL? Or is this only for non-JBL?

This is on a Non-JBL Unit. Now I cant speak from experience, maybe someone with a 2013 FRS Radio and JBL can chime in when/if they see this, but I know the 2013's needed 2 additional harnesses.

Metra TYTO-01 JBL Amplifier Interface Harness
Metra 71-1761 Harness

Dont quote me on that 100% for this unit, but that was what I could gather when researching this unit.

Subscribed.

I'm also curious about the jbl conversion. It's been a while since I last read that entire string.

damn, 335 to keep the stock look, i guess it works for some people, i prefer to spend that on aftermarket touch screen, pioneer 7 inch and do a parking brake bypass. i guess it end up the same, but the aftermarket has some things oem dont have. but nice job tho.

Mine personally cost me $260 but that's average cost.

Does anyone know

if this unit can interface with android OS? ie: source USB connection and app play instead of using BT? Read the manual and it didnt really claim any or much support.

Awesome write up thanks. Wondering too if this will work in place of JBL factory navigation radio in my 05. And I wonder what the power output is compared to aftermarket radios??

The USB Cable that's coming is what gives it the interface and I'm told yes, with android it works. I have an iPhone. I'll post it up when it comes in.

I'm not sure. I know the 2017 Toyota 86's have this same unit except shows Toyota logo and comes with Navi. Same exact unit, but double the cost. PT-546-1700

I just wanted to say thank you for putting this thread together! I had been watching the original 20+ page thread for months, but never pulled the trigger because it was all so mixed up. I'm happy to report that I ordered all the required parts you listed last week and successfully installed them yesterday morning! I'm super happy with the results and couldn't have done it without this post.

I'm curious to hear how your backup camera install went and if you still recommend the same unit? Is there an additional adapter to purchase for the camera, or does it plug right into the head unit?

Thanks again!!

Nice! Was your original unit the JBL system and do you have a factory back up camera?

My original unit was a non-JBL system and no factory backup camera. I was looking to buy the CCD Rear View Camera recommended by Az636 in his original post.

Sorry for the noob question, but this is a basic replacement for the stock radio, correct? Does it still work with the stock amp and speaker wiring? Does it have nav?

This radio is essentially a stock radio out of a 2016 Scion, but many people (myself included) think it looks nicer than an aftermarket radio you might get at a car audio place.

With a few adapters (all listed above by the Az636), this is essentially a plug and play option. Works seamlessly with my factory speaker and stearing wheel controls.

There are some differences between JBL and non-JBL factory systems, so everything I've written is specific to a non-JBL system.

The radio is capable of navigation, but it requires the purchase of an additional module. I believe that is called Be Spoke or something like that. I did not buy the navigation module.

Here's a "before" picture of my stock radio, and my after picture is shown in the post(s) above.
