Try pulling the negative battery terminal off for about 15 minutes. That should reset it, but if something is broke, then it'll reappear after a while.

I installed my Volant CAI and didn't have this issue, sorry to hear about your problem. Did you disconnect the battery before you installed the intake? I would reset it for a little longer, maybe an hour....

For board reference and possible future searches

If removing the negative side of the battery does not help, recheck your vac. hoses for connection leaks, kinks or cuts in the lines as the VSC system is run off of those lines.

Almost certainly no real difference in power or performance... everybody seems to think those things are worth like 15-20hp but in reality the only time they really make more than a few horsepower (sometimes they literally make none at all) is on a decently modified motor where the OEM airbox just wasn't sufficient in CFM for the motor's air requirements.

Most people that think it feels faster after an intake (CAI or not) are experiencing the placebo affect, sometimes because it does make the engine louder usually and people usually associate louder with faster.

it sounds faster than it really is...which gives an added "hp" feeling for most people. I really didnt notice a whole lot of change in the truck although once up and running just off idle (both WOT and non) the engine does seem more responsive and require a bit less power to achieve same acceleration.

I don't believe any company that puts on the back of their K&N "filter charger" boxes (just plain ol' oiled air filter replacement in the stock airbox) shows a 15hp gain as though that's the norm.

There are a LOT of convenient ways to get baseline runs to be weak. Like what if that stock air filter 4runner with 3000 miles just happens to have been run as the trailing vehicle on a nice 100 mile long dusty dirt trail off road expedition?

I ran my old 2000 silverado (sold it years ago) on a dry dusty gravel trail behind a couple friend's cars driving up a mountain fire trail for all of about 20 miles and when I got back I bet I shook about an eighth of an inch of solidly caked on gravel dust off my stock air filter.

I bet if I threw a K&N cone filter on there then I'd see some seemingly impressive before and after results because my dirty stock filter was nowhere near its original CFM.

I think they should specify they're using a brand new 100% clean OEM filter in these vehicles for comparison.

Well if you think they are trying to pull a fast one then i think some one would have caught on. another way to tell would be get mass air flow readings

just an intake will not do anything as performance goes. maybe 2 or 3 at most.
you would need to tune the ECU to get the most of any intake.

2 or 3 What? baby ponys

and why do you have to tune your ECM to get the most out of it

With a large amount of bolt ons, stock ecu programming does not have enough "leverage" to accurately take advantage of bolt ons and additional modifications. Most of the time, these tuned ECU's also adjust fuel and throttle maps.

Its quite common to see larger displacement v8 cars straight from the factory can gain XXhp from an exhaust but when paired with a quality software tune, you can see large hp gains with just an exhaust.

You do not have to tune your ECM to get the most out of a custom air intake. Opposed to what was said earlier in the thread. I also disagree with the statement about gaining more power with an exhaust being paired with an ECM reprogramming. You could gain more power on a stock vehicle with some reprogramming, but adding an exhaust will not change the engines air flow characteristics enough to also see a power gain with an ECM "tune". Now with both intake and exhaust work done you could just maybe have some thing to tune.
