UCA Corrosion

I had popped off the tire because one of the shims on the brake pads somehow had been pushed out of position (off topic of the point of this thread, but has anyone had this happen?). That was easily fixed. But, when i started looking around i noticed some nasty corrosion on a UCA joint (not sure if that is what it is really called). I will attached a picture.

I need some advice. Can i take a wire brush to this spot? Is there anything kind of lube or rust preventative that should be used? I will eventually have to change the UCA when install the lift, but that wont happen for a while ($$$).

**no idea why the pictures came out upside down.

It's definitely rusty. A wire brush would help, but I'd avoid hitting the bushings with it. They're probably dry rotted and might fall apart.

If it were me I'd wait until I had to replace the UCAs or bushings and then wire brush, paint and seal the area with the UCAs removed for the best effect.

If the UCAs are that rusted, I'm wondering how the undercarriage looks..?

That is a good point, make the most out of it without having to do the work twice.

As for the undercarriage, not really that bad considering i bought the Ol girl up in new jersey. She was a single owner runner with an extensive service record, so it runs and drives great. Im just learning that it has a few weak spots.
