i used some bed liner aerosol first time around and had to touch up a little in the <1 yrs i ve owned them, white knuckle sliders and custom tire carrier. only scraped one slider along a tree thus far on a tight bypass. i am going to be POR15 where they attach to the frame and the bottoms, and for the remainder of them i will use 3m undercoating. i have a por15/3m project coming up - just sorting out if i want new skid/skids first.

Slider question: if the brackets of SE tubular-style sidesteps (running boards, whatever you want to call them) bolt to the frame, and the step part bolts to the bracket, is there any reason I couldn't:

1) Disassemble them;
2) Have a metal fab shop create the bar part that can be bolted to the brackets; and
3) Assemble the resulting parts, bolt them onto the 4R's frame and enjoy having sliders?

If that makes sense, maybe they could reinforce the brackets too with some additional plating?

Interested to see whether anyone has tried that approach or just has feedback based on their own experience with sliders.

I didn't think the running boards (any model) bolted to the frame. I thought they bolted to the body...

Mine bolted to the body, but they weren't the tubular ones. Not sure on those.

No part of the factory running boards are strong enough to be used as sliders IMO.

Why not just get sliders? My stubbs welding ones were around $380 shipped and have saved me quite a bit of money in body damage. I've used them as a pivot around obstacles with ease. I have also used them to jack the vehicle.

Which Stubbs did you get?? I had them on my 3rd gen and loved them. I went with the HDSKO version at the aggressive angle to keep them tight, but am considering them for my 4th gen in the flatter angle to replace the running boards...

I have the I believe 7.5 degrees HD-SKO. Over the winter with increased steel prices he said he's only making the HD-SKO at the time. They are plenty beefy. I use them as steps to get up on to the roof just about every trip. They still hug the body pretty tight.

Disregard my “idea”...this brain has too many birthdays on it. On closer review, the factory sidesteps do bolt to the body, not the frame.

Exactly what I was looking for! Thanks. I went with the 15* last time but they were too tight to the body to use with the door closed. (which is what I wanted in that one!

Thank you, I think I found my next set of sliders. Do you have any more pics by chance? How much was shipping for you?

I see that they are based out of California as well, hopefully, shipping won't be killer.

So after some research, it looks like stubbs welding has closed its doors after 20+ years unfortunately.

White Knuckle makes some great sliders for the 4th gen. You can pick up if you are near Apple Valley, CA.
