When should you replace your shocks/springs at how many miles?

I was just wondering when you should replace your original springs and shocks? At how many miles usually? Thanks

I have a 2003 SR5 without Xreas. It has about 54,000 miles on it.

Do you feel any different with your 4runner now?? If not, then don't worry about it. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." If you ride comfort has deterioriated or your 4runner is floating on the highway (aka boat in water feeling), then have a mechanic or dealer check it out.

It is still riding fine. I was just wondering becasue I am looking to put a lift and still deciding on an OME or Cornfed. I just figured if I am going to need to replace my shocks or springs soon then I should just get an OME kit. Thanks for the replies.

The shocks are suppose to dampen and stop the oscillation of the springs. Without shocks, when the truck hits a bump it'll keep bouncing for a while. You can do a simple bounce test for your shocks. Push down on each corner of your truck, once it reaches bottom let go. The truck should come up and maybe bounce just once. If it keeps bouncing up and down, then you need new shocks. Like those cars that go down the road and hit a bump and then it continues to bounce up and down for many more blocks/miles, those cars are in need of new shocks.
