brake pad replacement for 2wd v8

what are the best pads to get for our 4r that wont leave excessive brake dust on rims?

i usually always use the wagner quiet type pads on my trucks because they were trucks so dirty rims didnt matter to me, but they leave a lot of black brake dust and i am looking for something better that doesnt leave that dust everywhere

2006 2wd 4runner sport 4.7L v8 engine

what are your recommendations for oem replacements and maybe part number if you have one?

all 4 rotors are in perfect shape with no lines, grooves, or ridges in them so i will not be changing those out

the old ones didnt seem to make much dust but i dont know if they are the oem brand or not.

does anyone know if the oem toyota pads are all ceramic pads? and if so is it best to just get the oem toyota replacement pads?

and thanks for your help

oh well, i know it was asking for a lot but i was hoping for a fast reply because i need to do this right now, today, since its my DD and its just to the point of metal to metal so i cant put this off to wait for your replies about what is the best option

im just going to go buy a set of ceramics and hope that is the best way to go

i guess i can always change them out later if you guys tell me those are not the best kind to use

oh well so much for the power of positive thinking lol

outside of rotor perfect condition, back side looks like bolt threads its cut in so deep

i kinda knew better since i could "hear" a grumble from them

i am surprised its only single piston calipers though? i would have expected at least double piston ones but maybe it because the backs are not really used that much

i went to to youtube to see how to "properly" remove the rear discs without breaking anything on the drum brakes behind it since i heard it was a common problem but it turns out all you have to do is just need to take your time and wiggle it till it comes off past the rust buildup on the edge.

all this time i thought there was something you had to disconnect on it in order to make it let go lol.

oh well since i have to replace the rear rotors i am just going to go full out and do a full set of pads and rotors all around so i know where my starting point is with all my brakes

i had just bought this thing used a few months ago and it looks like they just did the front pads about 20k miles or so ago since those still have about 1/4" of pad left on them and the front rotors arent smooth on passenger side so it doesnt look like they changed the rotor that was bad and just slapped a set of cheap bargain brand pads on it

ok all done and now i got fresh new brakes all around

drivers front had the pins in backwards, the spring was on upside down, and it had a set of two inside pads and no outside pad with the tattle tail squeaker

plus it looked like it was a different type material of pad then what was used on the passenger front.

i think some goober just put in whatever leftover pads he had laying around rather then buy a new set

i cant believe how hard people work at doing things the wrong way sometimes when its easier to just do it the right way the first time

so now after a whole bunch of money spent and eaten alive my mosquitoes, i got all new ceramic brake pads and full set of new rotors at 165k.

i figure i should easily make it to 200k before needing to even check it again, i think the brakes are for sure good for 35k at least but i dont know if i trust the high mileage claims they make about some brake pads but i generally assume 40-50k is the average lifespan you can expect from a set of pads depending how aggressive you drive

My personal fave is Akebono semi metallic. Good stopping power and less dust.

Nice work on getting your brakes back to OEM. Can't believe there was that much wrong with them. Congrats on the new purchase and hope it treats you well. Sounds like you're off to a great start.
