xreas suspension bad at 22k miles?

Hi,
After reading up on this forum of the issues with the xreas suspension, I think I am facing similar problems. Here is my vehicle: 2003 4Runner with 22k miles. Sport Edition V8 4x4
The problem is that when making a right hand turn at 15-20mph, a popping noise/something that sounds abnormal is coming from the drivers front wheelwell. It also occurs when making a right hand curve like one of those "pothandle" to a road.
Does this mean my XReas suspension is going bad? Will this be a costly repair?
Thanks everyone, Paul

Umm, the first place I would look is at the connection where the xreas line enters the shock and check for leaks. Then, check also the resevior on side and lastly the the corresponding rear shock. Are you lifted or have any suspension mods?

Is this during any turn or just right turns when the wheel is turned to the full stop?

Hi,
The 4Runner has not been modified at all and is all stock. This problem occurs when the car is in motion making a right hand urn, not when it is stationary. Thanks for the help everyone! Paul

An 03 with only 22k miles?! It's probably just ticked off because you never drive it!

Do you know the in service date? It should be covered.

Hi,
What do you mean by the inservice date? I think it is out of warranty though.

In service date is the date it was sold and left the dealer lot originally.

Yeah it seems early for XREAS to be failing, but there is always some that aren't as reliable. There is a thread over at Yotatech where some guys have 80k-90k miles and still running ok.

I'd take a good look (or have someone take a good look) at splash-guards and steering end stops (don't know the technical term) before pointing fingers at X-REAS. Much more likely that something has come loose, needs lubrication, or is rubbing than the X-Reas taking a dump on you.

In addition, if that system was de-pressurized or leaking, I assume you'd feel a notable difference in handling.

Thanks everyone. I will check inside the wheel well to see if anything is loose. However, here is the weird part: The problem is now occuring randomly. Sometimes it occurs all the time on a drive, and sometimes it does. However, once it starts it never stops. Or if it doesn't occur, the problem will never show during the whole drive. After I were to stop and leave the car...then come back and drive it again, it occurs. Weird, maybe I should take it in

Just be sure you're on good terms with your dealer or you'll get stung when the shop is "unable to duplicate" the problem but still charges you for an hour labor. That's always the problem with intermittent issues.

I'm having to leave my car overnight at the dealer so it can be rained on just so the problem with my drive belt will reveal itself. Pain in the ass.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone... I trust Molle Toyota and their service advisors, so I will try getting it diagnosed there after my dad looks at it... I will keep you all updated, I really hope XREAS system or some part isn't broken

Have one of the service writers go for a ride with you so he or she can confirm the problem exists. That way when one of the tech's who doesnt want to diagnose the problem (but would rather down a steak and cheese from the roach coach, on your dime!) has to actually earn their flat rate pay!
